I was there, also. I was attempting teaching at the time and the night before the game, a fellow teacher offered me a ticket and off I went the next morning. As for the game, Steelers were not playing that well on offense, and the stands were fairly empty at the end.
After the game, rather than waiting in the traffic congestion, I walked downtown to he first bar I found and drank beer after beer until it was dark and I walked back. to my car and. drove back to Windber.

Damned if I could do that today :(

I was there with my brother. My father and other brother were also there, seated in a different section. had to LISTEN to the Dolphins game on the radio due to NFL blackout rules back then (we didn’t have tickets for that one). And then the next morning I woke up to news Roberto’s plane went down . .

I thought Roberto Clemente’s plane went down on New Year’s Eve?

Led to the Steelers having the privilege of losing to the Dolphins the following week when Chuck Noll forgot punters are football players too.
True, but if you recall, the Steelers were not even expected to be in that game. That Dolphins team remains the only NFL team in history to complete an undefeated season. The Immaculate Reception signaled the beginning of an era dominated by the Steelers.

And yet they still lost the game after that 'catch'. that 'catch' gave them the privilege of doing so.

My dad and I were watching the game on a black and white set in his tv room. I was 13.

What I remember is, after the play, we both just looked at each other and said, "what just happened?" Replays weren't instant in those days.

Actually the Steelers beat the Raiders. They lost in the tigke game the following week. It certainly was an amazing event in NFL history.

Shula was one of the best during an era of great coaches. Shula, Landry, Noll, Davis, Schram, Grant.....etc etc. All left their mark on the league.

I was at a wrestling tournament in jersey shore. Won my first match and didn’t have to wrestle till later that day. Me and my friends went downtown to play pinball at a bar (Yeah they allowed us even though I was only eleven). So I’m concentrating on my game when I heard this huge uproar in this smoke filled bar. Naturally I had to check it out and saw the replays on the tv. I had no idea of the magnitude of the play except for one thing, Franco Harris from Penn State scored the game winning touchdown . I became a Steelers fan that day.
