For Clemson to stay 'elite', they have to adapt. I heard Bruce Feldman say Lincoln Riley is looking to bring another 28+ players to USC via portal, and pretty much everyone is using it to better their team. I don't think Clemson can afford to pass on transfers, but will be interesting to watch them try.

The guy who said he’s against anything that “devalues education” (as opposed to valuing a free workforce) also said his “transfer portal is right there in that locker room.” He went on to say that adding talent through the portal sends the wrong message to the kids he recruited and that he’s not doing his job if he has to add transfers for any reason other than to fill a gap in the roster.

He doesn’t have to look at it that way. What about a player like Arnold Ebiketie? He worked hard at Temple and was deserving of a shot at PSU. Why should any player‘s future be locked in at the conclusion of high school? It seems fair to allow late bloomers or overlooked players to have their chance to shine if earned, right?

Dabo is conflicted because of his choir boy church thing he's been pushing. Now he's stuck and I love it.

Doesn't Franklin have the exact same philosophy of using the portal only to fill needs when space exists on the roster and isn't going to bring in a ton of players through the portal? After all, Clifford is back rather than going after a QB transfer.

Think Dabo has exactly one player on his roster from the portal - QB Hunter Johnson, who initially signed with and enrolled at Clemson (before transferring to Northwestern). He’s angling for a career in coaching so Dabo allowed his return. So, not at all like Franklin…

I’m sure Franklin would be an even bigger hit around here if he used/didn’t use the portal like dabo.

I feel like he’s doing whatever he has to to survive. JuCo, portal, whatever…and has been pretty successful at it. But, not enough to do much where it counts (on the scoreboard). Dudes are getting drafted though.

Not the same, but Michigan and Minnesota in college hockey are stacked with NHL draft picks but cannot seem to win another NC, though they get close.

I think Michigan had 5 1st round picks on team this year.

Just because CJF has some NFL talent on team does not mean jack. I saw one of our fans (or they were posing as a fan) asked why with this much talent we did not win NC this past season. Lol. That person acted like we have Bama/UGA talent.

All that being said, coaching and execution must improve. With the staff additions and the great class that just came in, if we cannot compete for B1G and higher in about 2-3 years, it is not ever going to happen again.

Should be able beat Illinois though, right? Or is that bar too high?
