Obviously great for fans, advertisers, and places hosting the games, but are they necessary anymore? Most of the teams who would play in a CCG would have made a 12 team playoff anyway. Seems like it's viability going to be examined in the months ahead....

My biggest issue with the 12 team format is inclusion of top ranked non Power 5 school. Is Liberty really a worthy participant over LSU, OU? The non Power 5 should have their own playoff.

Jerry: So you won't believe what happened with Whatley today. It got back to him that I made this little dentist joke and he got all offended. Those people can be so touchy.

Kramer: Those people, listen to yourself.

Jerry: What?

Kramer: You think that dentists are so different from me and you? They came to this country just like everybody else, in search of a dream.

Jerry: Kramer, he's just a dentist.

Kramer: Yeah, and you're an anti-dentite.

Jerry: I am not an anti-dentite!

Kramer: You're a rabid anti-dentite! Oh, it starts with a few jokes and some slurs. "Hey, denty!" Next thing you know you're saying they should have their own schools.

Jerry: They do have their own schools!

Kramer: Yeah!

CCG actually are a real achievement - there is predefined criteria for qualifying and they determine something specific. So, they should stay.

The "national championship" is and has always been mythical and subjective. If anything, the idea of a "playoff" that isn't actually a playoff is what should disappear.

More specific to the question asked: the CCGs are a financial boon to individual conferences and more valuable to the more in demand conferences and they have absolutely no reason not to have them. If anything, given the size of the power conferences, I think we are more likely to see a setup where all teams are allowed to play a 13th game - conferences will have the top two teams play for a championship and have all the other teams play an extra game against a conference opponent they have no yet played that season (like what the Big Ten did in 2020). Crowds would be light - might just play them at neutral sites - but would be an extra offering for TV.

Eh, one of the most fun parts of March Madness is the cinderella teams. We'll see if that actually happens in football though, obviously basketball is much different. I would say the non power 4 team (I'm assuming the PAC is out) should have to go undefeated to get the auto-bid though.

With the expanded playoff think CCGs should go away. Just an opportunity for an injury in a game that won’t mean the difference in being invited or not (for the B1G or SEC and maybe others).

Against additional conference games that just add more net .500 games to conference teams records and potentially negatively impacts teams’ abilities to be invited to the future playoff. B1G should not have a setup that harms their teams more than other future P4 conferences.

I think it should be the top 12 teams regardless of conference affiliation. With that said, there will always be a disagreement about who should get in and who shouldn't, at least to some degree. This year there are 2-3 teams that people are upset about who couldn't get into the top 4. Next year it will be the teams who are 13, 14, and 15 complaining that they should be number 12. The NCAA basketball tournament has 68 teams and there are always a few others who complain that they should have gotten in. The expanded playoff isn't going to solve that problem completely.

I would say that most fans sort of think they are stupid.
Well, I do, and I have seen it expressed elsewhere.

Bigger question. Do players opt out or announce transfer like the did today.

If you liked that, you'll be happy to know there will be two of them (unless the powers that be adjust it) since there will be only four Power 5 4 conferences.

Here is a whole new simplified perspective now that we have 4 power conferences
Have each conference adopt consistent rules...# of conference games...# of teams...etc
Keep conf play-offs
8 team playoff with
4 conf champs seated by ranking records then by sos
4 remaining teams with highest ranking
non p4 teams have similar structure with their own playoff

That was a hilarious scene.

quit talking logic and sensibly.
the non p4 would never agree to this though.
