Loved Mad Magazine from 5th grade on. The first issue I bought had their Saturday Night Fever spoof. It was a sad day when they stopped publishing a "regular" magazine a few years back. Don Martin, Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker, Dave Berg, Paul Peter Porges, Dick Debartolo, and "marginal thinking" by Sergio Aragones...the usual gang of idiots. Classic.

What’s the cut-off age for when we think the youngsters probably have no idea what Mad Magazine was or is?

I say that if you are younger than 45 right now, you may have no idea what Mad Magazine was/is. Then again, maybe I kind of aged out of it as I grew up and generations after still read it religiously

I have a nephew that is younger than the age you listed who is an illustrator/cartoonist who had things published in Mad Magazine. He met Al Jaffee, and has posted a couple of tributes to him (perhaps more) on social media platforms. My nephew is probably in the minority in terms of people his age that knew about/appreciated Mad Magazine, but based on the reaction of him, and his younger brothers, I'd bump the number down to 30 or younger.

It’s funny, a couple of years back, I woke up one day and said “I’m going to subscribe to Mad Magazine”. I loved it as a kid and was disappointed when I learned it was no longer published. It was so clever and so many great memories of each issue.

No, I'm younger than 45 and the only person who loved Mad more than me in my household was my mom because I would sneak off to the news stand and leave her alone for a half hour when grocery shopping.

By the 80s a lot of Mad's best stuff was from the vaults, but it was still high quality snark and did much to shape my sarcastic outlook on life.

How often did you get the fold in correct on the first fold? How many times did you need to re fold it to get the joke “perfect?” I was probably 8 or 9 when I started reading Mad. Precision folding was a challenge.
What me worry?

I constantly think of mad magazine in the am when seating people.used to read that at easterly parkway then fairmount and westerly parkway junior high libraries in state college.
So at the restaurant we have a line or don’t have a line and people always ask “how long” if no line I just search for answers.
so I made a sign that says how long a wait we do have if we have a line, “up to 15 min wait”, or 15-30 min wait. Mind you every other place is on a 1-1.5 hour wait, and people then ask, “is this accurate.” My Rolodex of mad answers is flying in their mind. Usually though I just smile.

I used to try to mimic Don Martin's art and adapted his signature style as my own at one point. Forgot about Aragones - also did Groo the Wanderer for Dark Horse Comics. Good stuff!

Let's just all be honest. This stuff was silly but smart and it's far more highbrow than most of the pop culture dreck being pumped out nowadays.

We're being lied to by clowns every single day and as a country we can't even agree on who the clowns are. I don't want to get more political, but reading Mad as a kid helps to see through the ********. Like smoking pot.
