Interesting story - went to West Point, left to play football at Elon University, and ultimately graduated from Westchester. Got hired by SNL and subsequently fired (before ever starting the job) for some ‘insensitive’ jokes he made in the past. Does his own thing, builds his brand and is back to host after 5 years. His comedy isn’t really suited for live network TV, so his monologue was a bit rough, but he did well the rest of the way. Some Philly Easter eggs too (he also does a great Trump impression and I’m happy he got to use it).

Highlights below!

He cracks me up all the time, but his monologue in that environment is a tough one to pull off so it came off a little awkward. Not to mention it wasn't new material, but his skits were good. His skits on Gilly and Keeves are hysterical.

Yeah, felt the same. Didn’t think he’d do any Doen Syndrome stuff since it has a high probability of failure in front of this crowd but he did well overall I think. The LiMu Emu skit didn’t air live as far as I can recall - maybe cut for time? SNL has a very deep bench of all time great comedic decisions but firing Norm MacDonald and passing on Donald Glover and Shane Gillis are massive fumbles (also dog piling on Sinead O’Connor has proven to be a bad look).

Gillis threads the political needle so well it’s hard to know his politics (both D’s and R’s think he supports them)….
