Good one.picture of arresting officer
...![]()
Yikes. Best golfer in the world and not one cop recognizes you? Crazy.
Pretty sure Scottie should have recognized the officer. Had he obeyed him, nothing would have happened.
1 of the owners of Valhalla realizes how important Scottie is to this weekend and goes and gets Scottie from jail. This is going to be a bad look all the way around. Wait until all the facts come out, but I would expect charges to be dropped. Not sure whether Scottie was confused or didn't listen and the police probably overreacted. Now the police are the story this weekend and are going to take a lot of heat. Especially the cop who said I don't care who he is he is going to jail and arrested. Give Scottie a lot of credit not playing the "do you know who I am card...." Scottie just look totally confused like what the heck is going on here. It all happened so quick ....
Apparently.Point of clarification: Can the #1. GOLFER. IN. THE. WORLD.be arrested? Is that allowed?

Apparently.
Exactly I would expect maybe a plea of not listening to police officer instructions and a fine. All other charges dropped. My guess is the police department is looking how to get out of this quickly and move along and not be the story this weekend of the pga championship.Things in Scottie’s favor: He never raised his voice, didn’t use profanity, didn’t play the “do you know who I am” card…and everyone that knows/works with him says he’s the nicest/calmest guy you’d ever meet. Plus, it sounds like a) they do this every day to get around traffic and the officers/staff work with them (and another officer may have told him to do it), and b) other players were also doing it today.
Thing against Scottie: he kept driving after being told to stop and injured a police officer
Could have been handled better by everyone. Expect a plea, a fine, maybe community service, and we move along.
Their cars are clearly marked to tell you they are players...the issue seems to be that all of the officers and security staff working those areas are trained in being able to identify them...a detective that's there investigating the fatality likely isn't given the same information (or really cares at that point).I totally agree that Scottie should have obeyed the officers. There is no way in hell, unless your a super golf fan, that security personnel knows who all the golfers are and they apply the rules to everyone regardless.
I work security at major events and I have no idea who is who, unless you have approved credentials saying you can get to certain places I will stop you. I don't care if you are a higher up at the university, super rich CEO of Nike, an NFL player, NBA player, on the Olympic team, head coach of a visiting team, I will stop you and prevent you from accessing where you are not supposed to access. I am not law enforcement but if I need law enforcement to stop you they are right next to me. I don't subscribe to the "rules apply to everyone but me" mentality, they can fire me for doing my job if they want.
I didn't see that the cars were clearly marked in the story I read. Also, possibly the officers involved may have been there due to the fatality and were not trained to recognize the marked cars of the professional golfers. I know for me, regardless of my credentials, I do what law enforcement tells me in circumstances like this.Their cars are clearly marked to tell you they are players...the issue seems to be that all of the officers and security staff working those areas are trained in being able to identify them...a detective that's there investigating the fatality likely isn't given the same information (or really cares at that point).

Based on their initial defense, the claim is that he was following directions given by a different officer...I didn't see that the cars were clearly marked in the story I read. I like her. She seems nice. This is nothing for a PGA of America run Championship. The one I worked wound up w/ no grass on the greens in SoFla in August, so they did the natural thing - tried to OVERSEED them in 95 degree heat.
They ended up having to paint them green.
We also had a stripper manning a floating scoreboard, so there was that.

I don’t either. On the other hand, I don’t subscribe to selective enforcement either. Other golfers with PGA credentials were allowed to go around and access the golf course. TimeI totally agree that Scottie should have obeyed the officers. Yep completely avoidable. But 4 criminal charges is hardly a “big to do over nothing”.Honestly, the whole thing sounds like a big to do over nothing.
Bar cart girls at the (then) Sheraton Resort. They'd hand out cards to the hotel guests/golfers so they knew where they'd be dancing that night. Didn't seem unusual at the time. Actually, it seemed pretty cool.*FANTASTIC* story. Which Manning was the stripper?

One girl drove a new 560SL that a "friend" had purchased for her. She did look good in it.The ol' Vegas Strip business model.
Dang.Whoever has the "get arrested and win a major" parley with draft Kings this weekend is sitting pretty...
They weren't going to host another major ever again with or without this incident. PGA of America doesn't own Valhalla anymore. They did when they scheduled the tournament, and I'm sure still have all merchandise rights and are probably paying cost (if that) for the facility. They will want this gone quickly if they ever hope holding another major tournament there.

That slot will simply be moved to the new PGA facility in TX - the REAL reason the tournament was moved to May. No one really wants to be in Frisco, TX - including Seth Waugh. Let alone in August.
