Well, he needs something to help fill up his new building. After all, 400,000 people a year would be disappointed if there are any open spaces.

Will they serve onion dip at the grand unveiling of his collection in the museum?

@BobPSU92 I hope that this inspires you to trade in your test tubes, beakers, bunsen burner, mass spectrometer, safety goggles, and chemicals for paint brushes, oils, watercolors, a palette knife, and a blank canvas. Life changing inspiration.

I have been critical of Dr. Barron, believing Penn State has lost ground under his watch. That said, I found the video creative and appealing.
Perhaps he inspired this painting of members of the Board of Trustees.

You know they put that white splatter there on his apron just to make it look like he is doing something.

You all laugh, but he has a very prominent graduate who is selling his paintings for millions in exclusive and very private art exhibits.

I didn’t think I could loathe that man more than I already have, but that video did the trick. The masks, the platitudes, the premise all make me sick.

I had Barron for a geoscience class back in the 80’s, and he did a good job teaching that class. Once I saw him become a global warming stooge in later years, it was apparent to me that he is a fraud and a phony. It will be a good day when he steps down and we don’t have him representing Penn State any longer.

In fairness, not all the paintings sell for millions. If anyone wants to buy a very nice painting for a Christmas present, and has 350K in small, unmarked bills, have your people call my people.

The truth of the matter is that if Barron came out in support of oxygen, some Penn State fans would asphyxiate themselves in protest.
Well said. I don't get the Barron hatred on this board. I suppose it's b/c he didn't wade back in to the Sandusky swamp. The people I know who work with him have nothing but good things to say about him.

Or, maybe some of the lack of love for Eric Barron might be related to quadrupling Penn State's Long-Term Debt, Penn State's student body test scores dropping from 4th to 10th in the Big Ten, the highest in-state tuition in the nation, decline in in-state composition dropping all the way to 52% in-state in latest entering class, and this:

What are the Ratings Services Saying about Penn State? (substack.com)

But, certainly, those fellow administrators who work with him love him. Why wouldn't they? What's not to love?

Yeah, doesn't look like he'll be able to pull the fat out of the fire in the final six months. The new pres owes thanks to Dr. Barron for lowering the bar. Great opportunity for PSU to show improvement during her tenure.

Fair points of criticism for Barron, the board, Barron's predecessors, and our state legislature. I think most on this board seem to be anti-Barron b/c he's short and fat and didn't put the JoePa statute back up (and apparently something about onion dip, which I never did get)

Just to clarify, all of those achievements took place under this President (Barron) and the contemporary Board. And, just to add, even though I didn't mention it - and see it as a different level of issue - his repeated and blatant lies about his assumption of responsibility with regard to the Freeh Report issues is a very valid point, which others have brought up.

I know plenty of vertically-challenged, well-upholstered folks. And none of them, of course, re-erected a statue of a former football coach, to the best of my knowledge. I don't view any of them in the same harshly negative light that I do the current President of the University, nor do I know anyone who does. But that may just be the crowd I run with.

That said, sometimes creating a "critique meme" serves to deflect from the true, and valid, sources of contempt. Which is unfortunate.

Being short and fat is definitely the biggest indictment of barren. We deserve better.

Kudos for the "well-upholstered" description. May have to borrow that one.

You said it well, his tenure has been a disaster. And you can toss in the AD, who has watched our standing in the …… Cup decline appreciably.

Is it too harsh to call Neeli an itinerant mediocrity? Kansas, Louisville etc don’t get me excited in the least. I really hope I am wrong.

You aren't even close. At Kansas, she was dean of the business school, then provost and vice chancellor. The she became president of Louisville. Tha's called an upward career trajectory.

Neutral. Not enough in the public record to declare her a "home run hire" or doomed to failure. So I'll go out on a limb and assume that the BoT didn't **** up the hiring process and simply wait to see what she does.

She's going to propose massive amounts of spending, emphasize non-core mission items, and pay lip service to academic improvements, all while increasing tuition and begging the state for increased funding.
