Sigh. I'm having a real problem with beer these days. No one wants to make a quality beer that just tastes good. Craft beer is a great idea but everyone thinks they're an artist like Picasso making these strange creations. Just make a nice fresh pilsner for F's sake!

Man I really liked Steam Beer, have for many years. I had a six-pack a few months ago from Total Wine.

This sucks.

Something’s amiss in San Fran. What could it be? 🤔
Has more to do with Sapporo ownership than where its located but I'm sure you knew that.

>>
The San Francisco-based company announced Wednesday it’s ceasing operations and liquidating the beloved business “following a combination of challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016,” a press release said. Craft brewers, in particular, have been struggling for a variety of reasons including changing consumer habits, rising costs and lingering supply-chain challenges.

Another problem has been Sapporo, the Japanese beer company that bought the brand in 2017. Employees complained to VinePair last month about Sapporo’s alleged mismanagement and lack of understanding of craft beer in the US. In addition, a 2021 rebrand of Anchor was also criticized for pivoting too far away from the brand’s classic look.<<

Changing consumer habits, i.e., lattes.

There are plenty of “nice fresh Pilsners” out there. Not every brewery tries to be Dogfish Head or Heavy Seas. I was in Sheboygan recently and 3 Sheeps Brewery had a great Pilsner. Look around.

I/we (company I work for) do a lot of beer labels for the local craft scene here in Bmore. I think they have run out of "sours" to use. 🤦‍♂️

There does seem to be a return to brewers making more lagers and pilsners after the explosion of IPA’s and “fruited sours” has receded a bit.

Yeah, I just now visited the Heavy Seas website. Terrific labels, way too many heavy IPAs.

So you’ve had 3 Sheeps, eh? Or did you just hear that it’s good.

Yeah, I sat down at the picnic tables at 3 Sheeps and had a terrific Pilsner. I hadn’t heard of them before so not sure what kind of reputation they have.

Good job. This is actually a fairly common sign combination, a good illustration of ASL. ASL is freaking amazing.

I’m not fluent in ASL (didn’t start picking it up until I was 20), but I can get my signs flowing pretty well if I say so myself. Teaching 400-level non-Euclidean Geometry in ASL, that was cool. I’m a big guy and I had a big signing frame. I did okay.

Thanks. We do a lot of their labels. We are doing some now that wrap around on an aluminum can and if you view it in the cooler you would never know that its a metallic label and not printed on the can.
They bring us samples from time to time and The Loose Cannon, the (Generic sounding) Well Made (Lager) is pretty good as is the Hazy IPA, the rest are too hoppy and sour for me. But I never turn down free beer. ;)

I've become a fan of New Trail Brewing in Williamsport, PA. While they make some great IPA's, they also make a good pilsner called Lazy River Pils.
For the Jersey folks here, they just started shipping to NJ.

Believe me I do. We have beer in the supermarket but it's so tightly focused. Total Wine is a bit of a drive but I go through their huge beer isle and it's fancy crap. Yards and yards of it. Or it looks that way.

I haven't been to Wisconsin in many years but I'm sure they have wonderful normal beers up there.

That sucks - I had heard Anchor was just going to stop shipping out of state so I bought a sixer a few weeks ago in Exton and now total shut down. Always likes the taste and I had heard how they got started - the guy that started the brewery was the heir to the Maytag fortune and started what was at the time one of the first micro-breweries using the steam brewing process from the 1800's.

Since someone brought it up, I've been meaning to make the point. It tasted like swill before the problem and tastes like swill after the problem. Total garbage in the first place.

What is ‘the problem’?
