Won't get into a Franklin discussion - but nice to see Fickell and Whittingham (two guys who I think do a very, very good job in less than ideal situations) - on the lists.

Have Dabo and Harbaugh embraced NIL yet? If not, they'll be off this list in a few years.

Harbaugh has been actively looking to leave Michigan for the past few years - his success speaks more to Michigan's power as a blueblood than to his coaching acumen IMO (but I do think he is a good coach). Seems like he's half-assing it and still getting to the playoff.

What shocks me is that 6-7 people from this board did NOT make those lists!
6-7? LOL.....This locale is home to some of the most elite "gym coaches" to ever walk on water. They've done it all, know it all and have time to tell everyone else how to "get it done."

When I was coaching hoops they all sat in the stands behind my bench! All those camps I worked at, all those clinics I went to, all the books and coaching videos I purchased, when the only thing I needed to do was become a parent of a kid on my team!!

PSU (Franklin) just needs to beat OSU and UM everything else will fall into place. The mind set should be that PSU should never lose to OSU or UM @ home and take one or more on the road from OSU and UM for PSU to get to that Elite level program.

Franklin is not #1? I blame this board for not providing appropriate internet coaching tips. We are on the hot seat.

Feldman heavily weighed Franklin's success at Vandy and recent success at PSU. Said PSU was 'toxic' and in shambles when he took over. Said four 11-win seasons in past 7 years was big. Mandell said he hasn't been able to get PSU over the 'hump' wrt CFP, and noted his 4-14 record against OSU and Michigan. Of coaches on the list, I'd probably only take Riley over Franklin (Saban too old, Smart is too good of a fit in SEC, F Swinney, pass on NFL Jimmy).

The new CFP structure is exactly what Penn State needs; can take a loss to one or both of them during the year and still make the CFP (like we would have done this year). Beating OSU and/or Michigan more regularly will really help with the B1G Championships and recruiting.

Amazing that nobody in this thread ripped Franklin, yet our resident coaching ‘expert’ has to jump in and start his same ole schtick.

Just calling him out for what he is!

Franklin is a wonderful fit for PSU. I want to win every game.....but I like having some standards even more.

Boo hoo......I'm not the one who talks about how or what the PSU coaches should do ....or not do.
Anyone who thinks Franklin couldn't get an excellent job elsewhere should he so choose is blind.
He's great at PSU....9 more years!

No doubt. "New CFP" = more or less the existing NY6. With the twist being now it is "The NY6" with seedings. (whether that is a good thing or not is in the eye of the beholder)

PSU has shown, obviously, that it can be a NY6 team.

Nobody in this thread said he couldn’t. But you just gotta jump in and instigate.

Feldman also has Franklin ranked above Day. Franklin is a top coach, no doubt, but other than tenure, Day has better results. Longer-term, that may change, and we all hope it does.

With active coaches, imo, a better ranking would be taking into account the most recent 5 seasons. There are always some highs and lows over the longer run, but the rapid changes in college football on and off the field are best judged within a more recent, tighter time frame. Again, just my opinion.

Beating Michigan and Ohio State on a regular basis is a pretty tall task.

If nobody says he couldn't we all agree. It's March.....what good is not instigating?
Don't disagree, but isn't that the objective? I'm sure it's Franklin's.

The current PSU coaching record holder was 84 years-old. 71 year-old Saban is a spring chicken by comparison. I would do that deal every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Would you get LSU Alabama Saban (SEC) or MIchigan State Saban (Big 10)?

Ever notice that if a sports personality or publication rates PSU beneath BWICAC expectation, the wrath of god is unleashed upon them.
However, should a similar source print something positive and complimentary about the HC.....the response is...."he's not that good." LOL fanboys

I hate us.
Some of us are consistent in hating "us." Others lash out when a publication prints an "unfavorable" article in evaluating the program then flip back again and hate when something favorable is printed about CJF. Charlatans!
