Sorry to keep stirring this pot, but why would you think Cowbells, the new sportsbar at highlands is in a "terrible" location? That could be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Quick geography lesson....Highlands has resort status, that means Cowbells is open all night and on Sundays and you can drink anything you want, there is nowhere else in Starkville where that could happen, so its actually the absolute best possible location. Just to recap, you can drink on Sundays, go after bulldog bash and stay all night, there are more TV screens than can be counted.......Clearly you haven't done any research on this. It opened Monday night btw and will have its big grandopening on Sep.1.

1) its not on the strip...if youve been to any other college town most of their bars are in one central location

2) Road blocks will be out there everynight...if you dont live in the highlands good luck getting home

resort status will no doubt be great for football on sundays but if you put that bar downtown the strip instantly gets better

4 ways around road blocks:
--have someone just not get shitfaced, and they can drive the others. rotate to keep fair.
--call a damn cab.
--have your girlfriend/life partner pick your dumbass up.
--move into the cheap mass produced housing that litters the golf course.

there ya go. it isnt to hard to plan ahead, especially when drinking on Sunday is in the picture. you give up a little to get a lot.

1. The concept of DD is not real difficult to understand. One person stays sober to drive the rest of you home.

2. There are cabs in Starkville.

understand why CiCi's, in your mind, would complete Starkville. You are not playing with a full deck.
id rather get a dui than live in the highlands

Porkchop in the drunktank = Porkchop getting his *** kicked. Repeatedly. Think Louis Winthorpe III.

Porkchop in Highlands = slumming it. That place blows.

I choose bars based on location over quality all the time. I'm not ever going to be a DD, and I doubt any of my friends ever will either. I respect anyone who will do it, I just won't. I do like cabs however.

$35 freaking dollars. What a huge bargain. I don't know if was the guy that you are advocating here. But, what a deal.

location is key. And usually when I am shitfaced drunk, I have accessibility to public transportation or within stumbling distance.

but being sober in the company of your drunk friend anywhere, particularly where you can't get away from them, REALLY sucks. It turns out that all that funny **** really isn't that funny when you are sober. And the abuse heaped on the sober one in the crowd is usually unbearable.

We had some guys in college in my fraternity that didn't drink and would drive us around. In my book, those guys are saints.

There are 4 bars, 3 restaurants and no parking on Mainstreet and only 1 fairly high priced hotel so you will need a driver to get there also. Second, bulldog taxi has reopened with 2 brand new vans, 662-312-5003, $5 per person anywhere in Starkville. State theater is a large bar on main street and has had 4 owners in 3 years so clearly its not the cash cow you seem to think it would be. Finally, why would you build an 11,000 sq foot building and not control your hours? At highlands they can. It is the perfect location, check it out and then you can judge for yourself, it opened Monday and the grand opening will be Sep.1. Also, pizza is one of the items on the menu, so maybe you could just pretend your were at Cici's on this magical strip you keep talking about.

have cabs, i dont care if theres some phone number in the yellow pages of some local yocal who claims to run a taxi service. when i think of cabs i think of them coming down the street and them seeing i need a ride and pulling over not having to call a number and wait 45 minutes. so the location is terrible ive had no problem not getting drunk enough downtown by 1 that i need to go to another bar after, our bars close earlier so we go out earlier, still get plenty of drinking in (show up at mugshots at 9:30 and youre standing all night)...sunday will be nice but other than that the location blows

and please if you have friends that stay sober at the bar id like to meet them cuz mine sure as hell dont, pledges are only good for so many months

i hope thats true and that it lasts unlike the attempts in the past, starkville might be the only college town in america that doesnt have easy access to a cab

the more bars downtown the better thats all im saying, they end up competing w each other so the drinks get cheaper and you can actually barhop instead of being stuck in the highlands

Cowbells won't be the first to try the resort status thing. Hotel Chester already has resort status, and still can't get a license to serve alcohol on Sunday.

Mugshots? Thats all I needed to confirm, if your a regular at the mug, that would mean chances are very great your not even 21 yet....Please, please from this point forward refrain from business ideas/topics till you at least have a job slash checking account without a parent or guardian co-signer, thanks....Cowbells is in the county so don't need the city's approval as did Hotel Chester, same with smoking ban, does not apply.

82 then opens into the Highlands. This was so they could legally sell and posses beer since the day it opened.

I really need to try and understand you. Your saying that an 11,000 sq foot sports bar, with capacity of around 900 with 2 125 inch projections, 2 100 inch projections, 5 53 inch plasmas, private plasmas in every booth and over the men's urinals, that can stay open all night, and serve on Sunday's is not something we need? Your saying to do something half that size, on main street that closes and can't be open on Sundays is better? I really cannot understand your logic. If you think we need more bars on main street, well, I would say probably not because only on home football weekends are the only time more than 1 of the 4 reaches capacity. But If i were going to go that direction, i would say small theme bars would work better. Maybe like a microbrewery, maybe a blues/jazz type place. But were 10+ years away from having the population to support places like that on a normal week night. At highlands, you currently have approx. 1500 renters (students) inside the gates. There are more apartments being built as fast as they can be, that rental pop. should grow by another 1,000 or so over the next year to 18 months. You add in the resort status and it is the best place you could possibly build a sports bar.

Well, it is kind of common knowledge that adults don't go there except for lunch, secondly you've referred to your frat brothers so your not out of school yet.....Call me Perry Mason if you'd prefer.

first of all you just confirmed that you work for the bar so i understand why you are so passionate about it. secondly i was asked why i think the location sucks and i answered that. ive been to countless college towns where all the main bars are within walking distance of each other (athens, knoxville, lexington, oxford) and im my opinion it adds to the going out experience when i can start at one bar and then move to another 1,2,3, or 4 if i choose. In my opinion being able to drink at 4 in the morning does not outweigh having all the bars in one area. Im sure its a great sports bar and something that starkville needs but to me the location sucks and thats 4sure dog.

but I never would have gone there when I was in Starkville. I didn't go anywhere I couldn't walk to from the Cotton District.

I won't go there now, but that's more as a result of not getting to stay in Starkville overnight than anything else. Now I don't think everyone else lives life the way I do, so have fun.
