FILM STUDY - ZONE RUN GAME

See Link. Interesting breakdown. Lot of blame to go around -- O-Linemen not knowing when to climb to the second level and other communication issues, O-Linemen (particularly Miranda and Wallace) failing to get proper leverage/head placement, and a few examples of running backs just making the wrong read and not taking the most advantageous path/hole. Perhaps replacing 3 of 5 O-Linemen won't be the worst thing considering how this aspect of the run game never got fixed and basically completely abandoned by the end of the year -- much more Inside Zone and gap-based run scheme compared to years past as T-Frank had pointed out in one of his many vids.

I watched earlier today. That was some ugly stuff. Different body types of players doesn't fix those mistakes. šŸ˜¬

Coach Codutti on simple fixes for the OL. Another great episode from the dudeman. BLUF: wrong decisions by the RBs but more so, terrible communication amongst the OL, specifically when it comes to combo blocks. Also, some bad placement on blocks.

my $0.2 is we are poorly coached, and our blocking schemes dont help much either.
play 1 he bitches because 79 doesnt cut off the 4i. problem is the guy isnt really in a 4i, it more like a 3, which is next to impossible to cut off if you are trying to run the ball anywhere near that. If you are going wide, it shouldnt be a problem. Now if they had triggered the blocking to 79 and 70 they could have doubled that guy, and 70 come off to the LBer, they would have had a play
2nd play- same thing the other way 53 and 68 need to have the double team
3rd play the C doesnt climb because he cant. too many times these guys are turning their shoulders, which gets them out of position. They need to stay square to the LOS. That isnt communication, thats coaching
its again and again , you see poor blocking scheme design followed by poor technique. Its not communication, its coaching.

One of my gripes with this oline group is there leverage. Within two steps, every guys is standing straight up. As we all know, low guy wins on the LOS. With our guys giving up leverage all the time, we can't get push, our shoulders and hips get turned, we can't get to the second level as easy. I also see guys winding up versus making the first punch coming out of their stance. That windup allows the defense to get to your body first. A lot of technique errors.

not a word here I disagree with, sounds to me that is position coach coaching.

I don't disagree either. I have been saying for a few years now it is the schemes. We OL going off to the NFL and being successful but don't look very good to the avg PSU fan because we have no running game. After watching the film, it looks like constant confusion across the line which makes them look like they can't block. I am sure these kids can block if they knew who to block on every play. They shouldn't have to think that much on trying to figure out who to block, also, they should be prepared based on scouting(they should know what defensive fronts they will see and how they need to adjust). I was never a fan of zone blocking for the reasons that everyone is pointing out.

Thank you for posting the link to file study of OL. I could watch this shiite all day but actually have to do some work while I am working!
