MANNY DIAZ FILM STUDY

See Link. Dove into Diaz's 2018 Miami film, his last as DC at Miami and the year the Hurricanes lead the country in TFLs and 3rd Down Defense despite having a terrible offense (think they finished 7-6 that year). Lot of similarities between when Diaz does and what Pry does/did at Penn State. Major difference was how much more complex Diaz's pressure looks are then Pry and how he asks his DTs to do a lot more than what Pry asked for on blitzes. Much harder for QB's (Kenny Pickett in this case) to figure out who is coming and who is dropping and far less of the safeties blitzing from another zip code with no shot of getting home.

For context, Miami had 6 sacks and 14 TFLs in this Pitt game from 2018.

Yeah can we do film study of when he was at Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State too? Not seeing anything close to great defenses on his stops there either.

Here's an article about Coach Codutti.

One of the best young high school football coaches in Texas, according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, is a Philadelphia native who took his first head coaching job in Texas almost four months ago.

As a player, he was an offensive lineman at a small NCAA Division II school and professionally bounced around NFL and NFL Europe camps. As offensive coordinator at Beaumont Westbrook and, for the last six years, Tomball, he developed a sharp mind for the spread offense.

DCTF recognizing Fulshear head football coach Nick Codutti on its "40 Under 40" coaches list last week may have surprised some. Heck, it even surprised Codutti, who was one of only four from the Houston area to be named to the 30-man list of high school coaches.

Not sure what the heck you're talking about, FK3JM.

Diaz's 2014 Louisiana Tech defense led the nation with 42 takeaways and were fifth in the country in Scoring Defense - 17.5 points per game.
Diaz's 2010 Mississippi State defense gave up 19.9 points per game.

At every place Diaz has been DC, his year 1 defense has improved over the previous year. Not saying he's the second coming of JC, but it's not like he would have been unemployed if Penn State didn't hire him.

I'm not opposed to the exotic looks, but I would prefer spending time teaching tackling and other fundamentals instead of making the player have to think on defense.

You cant just cherry picks stats . Lets hope the offense scores more than 28 a game on avg

2014 La tech 362 yds of offense given up on avg 25 pts per game on avg against the 75th SOS Hardly great stuff to write home about. An Avg Defense at best. If you like avg defense ----guess Sandy got's this

1639457410871.png

2010 Miss State 356 yds given up on avg with 19.8 pts game against a 32ranked SOS a much better defense here but hey they lost to the teams they were suppose to lose to and beat the ones they should have. Sandy's got this one too as maybe it will put that loss to Illinois behind them and count on losses to SCUM, OSU, Wisky in the near future

See nosoup4u’s post. Just perused both those seasons game logs and nothing jumps out at me saying good defense. Does CJF want to turn his defense into an explosive one? One that makes splash sacks and turnovers with a stupid chain and gives up 500 yards when they don’t force a turnover. Seems like franklins style - though people seem to think Diaz actually knows X’s and O’s Better than Franklin.

his last 3 games at Mississippi State his teams gave up 50, 38 and 28 to the likes of Arkansas, Ole Miss and NC State…..

Anybody know where in the Philly Area Nick Codutti is from?

Wouldn't it be better to just thank him for the analysis?

@CaliLion79 you should tell this guy to either breakdown some game film like you did or to STFU.

Incorrect scores. Incorrect teams. [Edit, oops, looked at '10, not '15]

38 to #13 Arkansas (2OT loss)
23 to Ole Miss (win)
14 to Michigan in the bowl (win)

30 to Bama and 29 to LSU was the other highest point totals. Held eventual NC Auburn to 17.

---

You did fail to point out they won 2 of the 3 games in which you referenced.

Maybe Franklin wants a defense that gives up explosive plays.

Because thinking is so difficult. Collegiate athletes can't be expected to play football AND think. When would they ever need to do all of that ever again?

I didn’t say they are incapable of thinking. My point is the exotic looks are fine, but they don’t mean much if players miss tackles or are out of position.

And my point is that they are not mutually exclusive. Players can learn good tackling technique and still learn the defensive schemes being played.

maybe but can they play fast?? or will they suffer from paralysis by analysis which happens many times, even in the pros. Ever hear a coach say he wants his guys playing fast?

Lol appreciate it, Tioga. Just to clarify, I only edit the videos.

As far as Codutti's background, he grew up somewhere around Philly but I believe he went to high school in either Missouri or Kansas. Played offensive line at a small D2 or D3 school (actually, the new Oregon HC Lanning was his college roomie he told me this week) then played Arena Football for a few years before he got into coaching. We approached him about doing this vids back in the summer of 2020 -- he had his own Youtube channel back then -- and he was all for it. Nice down to earth guy.
