ALLAR FILM STUDY vs. MD

See Link. Interesting observations as Codutti shows us how Yurcich simplified a lot of the reads/route concepts for Allar in this game so he could process info quicker, play faster, and get out of his own head. A lot of the full-field progressions were eliminated and we saw a lot of the 'this-then-that' or 'that-then-this' reads that were a hallmark of his Oklahoma State offense -- including receivers running "dead" routes, meaning they're not part of the passing concept (see the failed rub to Warren where Allar takes off and runs because it's cloudy...the two WRs at the bottom of the screen are not part of the concept.

I wonder if "simplifying the reads/routes concept for Allar" also helped helped Cephus?

My question is, with a first time starter in Allar, why would we not begin with the simplified concept, then add to it?

Probably because OCs are like most humans. You get a new toy and you want to use it to your perceived limits of its abilities (think muscle car). You're not thinking about fuel efficiency, or how well it makes a turn at a stop sign, or whether the wipers work. After you have it for a while and get a realistic feel for its limitations, then you start thinking about how you can get the most out of it. Especially, if your history/knowledge is a sophisticated passing game. I also suspect that they counted much more on the RBs to make more explosive plays and that Allar would make short passes to supplement the run. It now appears (if MD was more than an illusion) that they've decided the passing game will be the focus with the run game the supplement. Allar had plenty of time to make plays vs the twerps. He has yet to show that he can make plays when under heavy pressure.

Assuming that was their plan, they should have recognized by the bye week that it wasn't working. They had plenty of time to fix it then.

Most QBs don’t make plays under heavy pressure. Drew was feeling pressure which wasn’t all that close and not stepping into his throws against OSU. Hopefully, he will be better this Saturday.

This, then, and that are all single syllable words.

Thanks for your videos, CaliLion. I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago. Really enjoying your breakdowns of the offense plays.
