Quoted from a Hickory Tavern high grad, a good friend. …….thought to self, self he shouldn’t be throwin’ Earnest T. Bass stones🤣

So this is pretty interesting here. Met a girl at the beach in the early seventies who went to Hickory Tavern. She would have graduated in 75. Not gonna name her here, but hiw long was Hickory Tavern, a high school?

My Dad worked at Hickory Tavern High School for a year or two around 1970. I believe the districts were separate then, but I'm not sure.

Speaking of Bucks, his son Mike now owns the lot and runs it much as Buck did. You may be thinking of his youngest son Tim who was bringing in used BMW’s in a separate operation.

Bought my 535 from him, circa ‘83.

I was somewhat shocked @ our 50th when Tyler kept bringing up the GHS & Carolina dayz in front of his wife😳
She must have thought I was a druggist 🤣

They were our rivals although we got along with most of them individually. It was the institution we had a problem with.

Ford was the mill village school. We were the school way out in the country in the far western part of the county.
The good people of Lauren’s were horrified by both of us.

Back in the day I recall Hickory Tavern, Ford used to be really good in division A high school football. Really good teams I remember. Ford I remember one year had a really good team and lost their first game of the year to Thornwell who was always good in A high school football. Ford scored in the last minute of the game and decided to go for 2 points to win, but the 2 point conversion failed and Thornwell won 21-20. Classic high school football game from the early 70's. Ford did go on to win the division that year with one loss. Ford, Hickory Tavern, Thornwell, Lockhart always had good small high school football teams. Of course all those small schools are no longer. Those were some good high school football teams back in the days of the early 70's.
