I noticed where florida has a WR named Chris Rainey that made noise today. Didn't we have somebody by the name of Chris Rainey a while back... Or somebody perhaps? I remember that name from a team that was not Florida, anyway. I could look it up, but I'm really lazy... so I'll just ask you guys

Was a back up running back for us in the late 90's. I believe he was a QB in high school; I know he was from Amory. Wore #4 for MSU.

Ah, yes! Now I remember. He then went into his one year illustrious career with the Tupelo FireAnts.

No, that was Rob Gibson I believe. I know it wasn't Rainey.

But the other guy is right. Rainey was RB from Amory. I think his biggest game was vs Vandy in 99. I know he had a good run for a TD in that game.

Rainey played on the Lakeland, FL team that Wes Carroll's St. Thomas team made that crazy 21 point comeback against in the last 4 minutes only to lose in OT. I think that Lakeland team has about 5 kids sign with Florida.

This is the?1998 MSU-Arkansas game. You can see Kevin Cooper catch a pass on 4th and 15?at about?the 4:00 mark. Sadly, Kevin died in a car wreck just recently.

Chris Rainey makes a very crucial 15-yard run right after Cooper's catch that sets us up in position to kick the game winning field goal.

Hard to believe it's been almost 10 years now. A few comments:

1. What a shame Kevin Cooper died recently. We all owe him a great debt. I think he was the first heavily recruited player from South Panola to sign with MSU.

2. For all the hell Wayne Madkin catches, he was probably the best clutch QB we've ever had at MSU, and one of the best I've ever seen. If he could have only played the non-clutch plays as well, he'd have been an All-American.

3. Hazlewood's FG was possibly the ugliest game-winning FG I've ever seen. But, by damn, it was the prettiest!

4. If Jackie hadn't left JJ Johnson in the Bama game to tear his hamstring the week before that, we'd have won that game easily and we'd have beat Tennessee to win the SEC title that year.
