If we can’t get the best flyover for game in StarkVegas that we’ve ever had for the Florida game then we’ll never get a great one.
CAFB Open House is the 21st and 22nd and they’ll have some F-35’s and the Thunderbirds performing the afternoon of both days.
With the strict schedule of the Thunderbirds, may not be possible to do that at 11:00 and then do their show at 3:00 but it sure would be awesome !

It won’t be the best one we’ve ever had. I was flying the #3 RF-4 in that one back in the day. It’ll never be topped. Eight J-79 engines in four Phantoms cookin’ at ~350 knots down low will make your sticker peck out if you’re watching it from the ground. It’s The Sound of Freedom. Some people said we were below the lights (I don’t know; I didn’t have time to look around) but that was before the south Jumbotron and the north end being bowled in.

Maybe for the Florida game we could get the *second* best one we’ll ever have but the best one is history.

Not sure what game that was you're talking about but my most memorable flyover was the 1983 game vs Navy in Jackson's MS Memorial Stadium. Not sure of the aircraft but there were 4 I believe that came over from NAS Meridian. Those damn things had to have rocked bed ridden bodies out of the bed going over UMMC. As you said they barely cleared the stadium lights and about halfway over the stadium they hit the afterburners. They immediately then pulled out/up into the missing man formation (not sure if for legit reasons for someone missing somewhere or just impressive move) but I've never seen anything go that fast, with that much fire coming out the azz end. As a mere young lad I could seemingly feel the Gs that guy must have been pulling climbing from basically horizontal to vertical in seconds. It was more than impressive for a college football game
Edit:
Edited to say and then there were the Doc Fogelsong flyovers that were done from a biplane as he waved to the crowd below

Does the broken leg parachuter count? It did bring us good luck.
I saw that one too. As an amateur just sitting in the stands I could tell he was in a world of hurt way before he hit the ground, no way he could slow enough not to 17up

Tell me what game that was bc I don’t remember it.
The 1983 Navy game in JXN stands out for sure for what seemed a below the lights with afterburners cooking.

Unfortunately, I’ve not seen any video of that Navy game flyover but would love to see it again if it’s out there somewhere

1983 vs Navy
1996 vs Bama with a 100 mph gail force wind. Delayed the game for 45 minutes. That game saved Jackie’s ***. If he lost he was going to be fired the next morning…

The 1983 flyover was done by the Meridan ANG flying RF-4s... The lead was a guy nicknamed Chicken John...it seems he flew over some chicken houses so low that chicks died of fright.

I’ve done about half a dozen or so flyovers while I was a pilot flying RF-4s in the Guard in Meridian. (I also flew Air Demo flights for five or six years in a row in the London International Airshow in London, Ontario back in that same time period.)

I wasn’t in that particular flyover in Jackson in 1983 although that was the general time period (years) when we were doing them. The guy you referred to as Chicken John was John Ganley who was our Squadron Ops Officer at the time. Since he was one of the “bosses”, he didn’t suffer any of the consequences that most of the rest of us would have received if we had led a gaggle like that. He was generally a competent pilot but not one of my favorite people after I heard he shot me in the back years later when I interviewed with FedEx for a pilot position. He interviewed to be a pilot at FedEx but didn’t make it and ended up working as a simulator instructor for them. He’s retired now.

It’s not easy to remember all the details since it’s been 41 years since 1983 but, if memory serves, that game was on Saturday of Memorial Labor Day weekend (I could be wrong) and Ganley was apparently caught up in the moment and wanted to make it memorable which, I guess he did because people still remember it.

Edited:
I meant to say Labor Day weekend; not Memorial Day weekend. Thanks Dawgbite. We could be kindred spirits.

It was 1983 but definitely not Memorial Day nor was it Labor Day weekend.
September 17th to be exact.
Also think it was a 1:30 PM kick.

Wasnt one of the pilots Dickie Scruggs?
I don’t think he was on that particular occasion in Jackson but 41 years ago is a long time to remember. He was in our Guard unit for a couple of years and I think I even had him on my wing for one of the flyovers we did but I don’t remember which one.

I wasn't at the game in Memorial Stadium but a classmate was in the band. He said the band saw them coming and some started to scatter during the national anthem.
At DWS I remember F16's doing a flyover although I forget which game it was. The guy on the right side of the formation had to dip his left wing to avoid the NE set of lights with his right wing. During this time, faculty/staff were on the 50 in the upper deck of the east side. One of my professors swore that he was looking down into the cockpit of one of them when they flew over.

I was at that game, sitting on the top row of MMS. When those jets came over, I was basically at eye level with them. Absolutely awesome!!

Was at that game too. That was without a doubt the best flyover ever that I've seen. The wifey and I stayed at the downtown Holiday Inn. Usually ride the Trace late at night, but being a night game, we thought we'd try it out. Worked out well, but then was then and now is now. Huge crime difference I'm sure.
