Folks, Jason Autrey is set to officially become the biggest villain in Gamecock sports history

He's gonna surpass any/all other villains (Charlie Whitehurst, Marquez North, the Colquitts, Tommy Bowden, Rod Gardner, etc.) because he & his crew will have single handedly kept our Cocks out of a playoff that we legitimately would have had a pretty good shot at winning. I know we all should be happy as all get out right now, & I am, but the thought remains that this Cock team IS one of the best 12 teams in the country, but they're not gonna get the chance to play for a championship because Autrey & crew took 16 points off the board as well as throwing multiple phantom offensive PI calls in key situations & missing an obvious roughing the passer penalty that would have negated a Sellers interception. I can't help but wish the absolute worst in life for that crew of "officials." We're gonna end up being the first team left out.

5 automatics:

Oregon/Penn State winner
Georgia/Texas winner
SMU/that school upstate winner
Arizona State/Iowa State winner
Boise State/UNLV winner

7 invitees:

Georgia/Texas loser
Oregon/Penn State loser
Ohio State
Indiana
Tennessee
Notre Dame
Alabama

ONLY way we get in is if the committee somehow jumps us over Alabama & Ole Miss. That buffoon, Heather Dinich, said last night that they were still gonna keep Miami in so none of the 3 loss teams get in.

I don't know. I think that ref who tackled Stephen Garcia in that LSU game some years ago is still villain #1. He must work for LSU and made the trip with them to Columbia this year as well.

That tackle, although aggravating, cost us nothing. That Cock team went 7-6.
He certainly will be remembered. However, we finish off Bama when we had the opportunity and it wouldn’t matter.
Alabama beat us fair & square. They made less crucial mistakes than us & beat us by 2. The LSU loss was FAR from fair & square.

The one-sidedness of our loss to Ole Miss is also being held against us by the committee in the head-to-head with the Rebels. You can thank our impetuous coach for that one. Head-to-head is higher in the protocol than how the two teams are playing currently.

It is A metric. It isn't THE metric.

I never asserted that is THE metric, I wouldn't have even thought of it as A metric until Heather Dinich cited it during her conversation with "Dari" Nowkhah on the SEC Network's Football Final late last night. She has been ESPN's lead CFP insider since the inception of the CFP and even covered the BCS. She has excellent connections and averred that THIS metric would "likely" be the decisive one in eliminating us if we are excluded since both we and Ole MIss have three losses. Everyone knows that we got hosed in the LSU game, but LSU is definitely out anyway with four losses.

Miami should not be in. If they are it serves as confirmation of my theory that the playoffs only exist because of SEC dominance in the national championship that began during the BCS era.

Sankey saw where it was headed so he introduced this model which was initially rejected. But then another all SEC title game occurred so everyone else got on board.

It would maybe be ok without automatic bids. Unless SMU wins the ACC no ACC or Big 12 team would get in. If none of those teams make it then there’s room for Bama, Ole Miss and SC. But as is, an underserving Big 12 team gets in and the ACC, which is about as solid as the defunct WAC, may get two teams in, one purely out of spite.

And another person delivers an incontrovertible case for no automatic bids and all bids determined by the same impersonal digital process. Let the chips fall. The measurably best teams after Championship Saturday should be the only CFP participants.

Dinich.....I'd advise taking her with multiple grains of salt. She's as massively pro ACC as they come. She has a long history with that conference, & she's been honking for the ACC to get multiple spots in the conference for numerous weeks, which is preposterous. Even after Miami lost their 2nd game of the month to an unranked opponent, she still had 'em in the playoff in said SECN spot last night. She has Danny Kanell credibility.

If you heard her remarks, you know that they were based on sentiments expressed to her by committee people regarding their criteria. The same thing applies to remarks she made about us.

She also said point blank that she could easily be wrong about Miami, even though the committee considers close losses as less damaging than bad losses, which ours to Ole Miss was.

Her projections historically have been mostly reliable, which is why she has remained a featured college football contributor on ESPN since 2007, well before the inception of the CFP.

No one who isn't in the CFP Committee room when they meet knows everything, not even punits like you or I.;)

Since we lost to both of those teams, I just can't see the committee giving us the nod of those two.

The Ole Miss loss was bad, but let's not forget we were an underdog in that game. Miami just lost a game that they were supposed to win. I think it comes down to us and Bama for the final spot.

In that case, it will, in all likelihood, be them.

Your negativity is Olympic class.
Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and we had beaten Bama, we were ranked higher (and had been all season), and finished with an identical record. Bama was on a six game winning streak and we weren’t. Would you be ticked if the committee put them in over us after we beat them head-to-head? Like it or not, head-to-head should carry significant weight.

iMHO our biggest argument should be we lost to 3 teams, all that were ranked at the time we played. Bama lost to Vandy and Oklahoma that were not ranked at the time they played.

FYI…for those who haven’t seen, the coaches poll has us at 12, AP at 13.
