Former quarterback Sean Clifford has been named as the Penn State male recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor.
We are horrible judges of talent.
Man I hate us for Clifford. He’s busy earning medals and backup work in the NFL.![]()

You have been and are correct. History has shown that PSU’s evaluation of Clifford was reasonable. You have been consistent and steady when it comes to Clifford. It’s nice to see Clifford achieving things and getting recognition. He deserves it. I admire him because he persevered in the face of adversity. Nobody was blowing sunshine up his you know what like some other players. He earned what he has the hard way. That should be respected. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to acknowledge your steady support that was frequently criticized."Don't know what you've got till it's gone."

Jesus, nobody hated Clifford,
In retrospect, Cliff was like so many of our QBs under JVP - good, not great, had a few big games and a few bad ones, often did enough to win, or to manage the game while others did their thing, had some big time moments (final drive at Purdue last season) and games (this past season's Rose Bowl), but was never going to be confused with whoever was the #1 team All-American QB of a particular year. But, he was the best QB on the squad at the time, and overall, PSU was a pretty good team with him healthy. My admiration for Cliff is colored by my coaching life. Just the "fans" in the stand that booed him before the Minny game.Jesus, nobody hated Clifford, good for him, hope he sticks around like TM.
Right. For Gods sake, he wasn’t Anthony Morelli! That’s a QB that was hated!Jesus, nobody hated Clifford, good for him, hope he sticks around like TM.
Interesting to bring up Morelli. We fans expected so much from him. As one long-time but retired coach told me at the time, Morelli just never understood the offense, and even when it was, let's say... modified for him, he had trouble grasping it. Lots of arm talent, limited grasp of the O, leading to some head scratching games and losses. And leading to major fan frustration.Right. For Gods sake, he wasn’t Anthony Morelli! Brings up an interesting question. Most disliked (I won’t use “hate”) PSU player of all time. Morelli? Pre-sanction team McGloin?
I don't "hate" any PSU players. But as for QB's I didn't like, as far as their QB play, Matt Seneca and Rob Bolden are the first 2 that come to mind.Right. For Gods sake, he wasn’t Anthony Morelli! That’s a QB that was hated!

I would put Bolden in the category of most head scratchingly overrated coming in. The guy was horrendous and never looked like he had any idea how to play QB, ever.I don't "hate" any PSU players. And I don't think Morelli was as horrible as everyone else. He didn't have the best offensive mind to help him out.cough, cough Jay.
horse shi tJesus, nobody hated Clifford,
Ahhh…yes they did. Don’t try to rewrite history.Jesus, nobody hated Clifford, good for him, hope he sticks around like TM.
I ended up being not too fond of Silas Redd. He sorta doesn’t count though.
Good for Cliff, he is going to have a 5 to 10 year career in the NFL as back up Qb.

Yeah, McGloin played like a walk-on QB in 2010 and 2011, and the fans treated him as such. While I think Jay gets too much criticism for his QB coaching (see 2005 MRob and 2008 & 2009 Daryll Clark), his not seeing the potential in McGloin over Bolden's actual performances (well, most of them), was a problem for the offense and the team. McGloin stumbled, for sure, but it seemed Bolden was either ok at best or really bad. At the time, I was among the fans who did not think McGloin would pan out no matter what, so I was not in his corner then. In 2012, he proved me and many others wrong, and turned in a great season.
