For those who don't comprehend why a night game vs UK is a factor

No, having a night game isn't a guarantee of a win. Far from it. But it's a major factor. Exhibit A was our win over A&M last year. A&M was visibly rattled by the crowd early on and it factored directly in us scoring. It was a pretty tight contest, and we likely lose that game without the effect of the home. night crowd. For whatever reason, crowds at night games are simply more raucous than day games. I think someone said on here once the whistle blows and the game starts it's only about the players on the field. That poster didn't see the A&M game last year. The crowd was the main reason we jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead. If not for that, we likely lose.

As far as UK is concerned, they have played in one hostile environment all year, at UGA, and they got walloped. Granted, it was UGA, so the loss was inevitable, but they got vaporized. UK's only other road games this year are Vandy and Mississippi State.

Not making any bold predictions, but our margin for error is VERY narrow. UGA was gonna beat UK whether they played at noon, 7 pm or 8 am, though it did happen to be a night game and likely contributed to the magnitude of the blowout. But we aren't UGA. We need EVERY advantage we can get, however minimal. This game being at home, is HUGE. Being at night is big.

The crowd needs to bring in a big way.

This is true. The game settled down, our D did what it does and allowed them to get back into the game, and the offense sputtered. But without those first 6 minutes of mayhem in that stadium we don't win that game. They had a few false starts in that first half too. Maybe a delay as well, can't remember.

Can we all agree that an “advantage” doesn’t necessarily have to determine the outcome of a game? An advantage is any factor that simply shifts the momentum of the game in your favor, no matter how big or how small. I was told in the Clemson thread that it being a night game wasn’t an advantage because it would change who wins or loses.

It's not THE determinant of the outcome. But certainly is a part of it. Vegas makes a lot of money factoring in home field advantage into spreads. It's ludicrous to think otherwise.

It's an advantage that UK and Clem are going to have to overcome. Doesn't mean they won't, but it's not going to be as easy as it would have been at home.

Oh I agree 100%. This jackwagon implied that a night is not an advantage at all which is just a “look at me” asinine statement in my opinion.

Right. Of course. We've lost plenty of home night games. But it cannot be denied that it is only one of many aspects of the game that gives us an advantage.

Let's put it this way, if the SEC called us up and asked "Do you want to play Kentucky at noon or 7:30 pm?" we'd pick 7:30 pm before they even finished the question.

I saw the look on Houston Nutt's face that fateful night in 2009. He felt it. It was pure chaos, and the place wasn't even full. Been to a lot of big games with a packed house, that one hit different. Just a different vibe.

As would literally any team in the entire nation. Seems like enough evidence to me to consider it an advantage. Apparently there are some on here that just can’t see that logic though.

Absolutely!! I guess the 09 game is endearing b/c it wasn't "supposed" to be like that b/c it wasn't a sellout. Then Sandstorm hit at the exactly right time and it was like a bomb went off. There was an old drunk guy in front of me blaming Hyman for the new pricing structure. It was great.

NC State 1987. You had to be around back then to know the history. Daytime game. My high school coach was the Wolfpack head coach. I was in whats now the student section where the visitors come out the locker room so I could wish him luck. I tried but he couldn’t hear me; too loud. I had never seen fear on his face before then.

The players don’t care; ‘night game’ only exists in fans heads.

Good grief. You’re straining to miss the point. Have we won big day games? Yes. Have we lost big day games? Yes. Have we won big night games? Yes. Have we lost big night games? Yes.

There’s nothing impressive about going back 36 years to cite a big day game that we won.

It also does absolutely nothing to disprove the obvious truth that having it as a night game is an advantage we want.

Beamer…shoot, virtually any P5 coach…has commented on the advantage of having a big home game at night. It’s not just a construct on the minds of fans. Coaches want those night games as well.

Most coaches prefer afternoon games if they are the home team. They don't like having to keep the players focused and occupied all day waiting on the game prep to start. Night games also make recruiting a little harder because the coach can't spend as much time with the recruits after the game. Noon games at home are a lot of coaches favorite time. They can get the players up and make the day like a business workday. Get dressed, get to the stadium, get ready for the game, go through workouts and start playing.

Night games are loved by the fans because they have more tailgate time. I can't remember which coach said it but one coach, when asked about the difficulty of playing LSU at night replied; "well, one of the toughest things about playing in Baton Rouge at night was, you had to play LSU".

That’s just not true. Dabo bemoaned not having any home night games this year. And Beamer has spoken about how fortunate they’ve been to have a lot of them.

Lol; every bit as ‘impressive’ as going back to a night game to try to make a point.

The Quincy game. The Fade. Tanneyhill’s debut vs MSU. FSU 1984 on ABC; W-B has NEVER been as loud as that game. All daytime, when college football was meant to be played. Benefits no one but the fans, non factor for everything else, like blackouts and black; you guys misunderstand what’s being said by the coaches.

You literally just said the “‘night game’ only exists in fans heads.” Who creates the unhinged and chaotic game day atmosphere in the stadium? Last time I checked it’s the fans creating the noise. Or are we now going to reverse course and say the atmosphere doesn’t play a part either?

Remember 2022 Georgia? The stadium was packed, the crowd was crazy loud, it was scorching hot (Georgia was going to wilt in the Columbia heat), the stadium was bonkers with Sandstorm playing. More than a few pundits were picking Carolina to upset Georgia, a lot of them pointed to the difficult environment. Georgia came in and kicked our *** and took our lunch money.

Players decide the game on the field. The fans and the kickoff time are the most minor of factors in the outcome of games.

Oh my word. One last time for the people who lack reading comprehension. We said at the very beginning of this thread that the argument is not that game time or atmosphere or anything else determines the outcome of the game. We simply said it is one of many factors that can give either team a competitive advantage. If you argue that a night game atmosphere doesn’t provide that then you are just being contrarian because you’re bored or want to appear superior to all the other simpletons on the forum.

Ok friend, here ya go…

A game played at night provides no tangible tactical advantage in the real world. Sorry.

You want contrarian; contrarian here now.

Oh so now we’re only talking about tangible advantages is that right? So are we saying that there are no intangible aspects that help a football team such as leadership, mental preparation, comradery, etc?

Reread your statement. You literally used the word tangible. And I won’t argue that. The stadium atmosphere creates no physical or tangible advantage, but almost anyone except you few contrarians would agree that it does give, even if just slightly, an intangible advantage to the home team. And night games certainly are more prone to create a more intimidating stadium atmosphere. It’s not a difficult concept.

That's what they tell me. 🙂
Speaking of assuming, I just assumed you didn't know what debut meant. 🙂

Good luck fighting the good fight, but unfortunately I think your rational thoughts will be discounted. You are, after all, probably talking to an individual who received the 4th Team Honorable Mention Award for the local pee wee league. Those are his qualifications and you just can’t argue with that.

It was a night game back in 1983 against Southern California that developed the phrase "If it ain't swayin', we ain't playin'"

I'd like to see a metric about how many wins/losses we have in night games at home where the spread is less than 7... less than 3

Well, this thread is just a microcosm of the state of discourse in our country. People just want to argue, even if it’s about settled fact.

It’s obviously far more desirable to have a night game in this type of situation. To argue against that only betrays ignorance, even though those who are arguing against it think they’re smart.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
