Hmmm. I sent this to my daughter. She complained to me about the loss of much of her senior experience at her Cali university.

I don't know how I feel about this. COVID definitely threw a curveball at everyone's lives. Some people think it was not right to close everything down, however, my experience is that I know people who died from COVID and others who barely made it thru having COVID. Do I think students are entitled to a refund of some sort? Not sure, $155 when you are paying close to $20K is peanuts however, I do believe PSU World Campus cost the same as if you were on Campus without the room and board. Also, in the overall scheme of things 1 year of some adversity(attending college online) in your life is not something that ruins your overall life that you should be compensated for. Is this just lawyers looking for a payday because this is certainly not helping any student with only $155/student.

I'd ask the question of how did they handle room and board...did students just lose out on their "rent" that was paid when the dorms all closes, and/or lose out on all the meal account $ they had on their cards when the food services all shut down? If so, then I'd think they should have been eligible for some type of refund (and much more than $155). But maybe they've already received that, and this is really just related to classes (didn't seem totally clear to me).

But yes, the only big winner here is the lawyers.

From the article, "the university also said it gave room and board rebates..." Not sure the value of the rebates, but it would probably been more than $155.

Only winner is lawyers.

Even if the lawyers did not get anything, this only amounts to $236 per student for the 72,000 students the article says would receive something.
