Wouldn't that be something? Deion as a Gator. Do you think the FSU connection would make it a non-starter for the influential UF boosters though?
I just can’t see it. The jury is still out on how good a coach he is. Then throw in the FSU connection. I just can’t see the Florida folks taking that kind of risk. I think they’ll want a more proven commodity.

That said, hiring Sanders would certainly make a splash and get all kinds of attention and PR.

How long before it starts...Per ESPN, Mullen gets the boot.
Ha, ha. They fired Mullen because he couldn't win consistently from season to season. Can't imagine how Franklin could even be considered by that criteria.

Franklin should be very thankful that is not the criteria at PSU and he is getting an extension when others are fired for down seasons, especially with this season, where expectations were rather high.

Mullen to VT
Napier to LSU
Aranda to USC
Kiffen to Florida
BOB to Baylor (if Aranda goes to USC)

I didn't realize expectations were high at Florida this year. They sent the entire offense to NFL. The SEC is tough. It isn't getting easier until Saban retires. That standard is ridiculous.

Pat Forde has Napier, Kiffin, and Franklin as possible fits (he notes Franklin likely inks a new deal with PSU this week though):

James Franklin (6), Penn State. He’s won at a much tougher place in the SEC than Florida, and then followed that up with a successful tenure at Penn State (although this year has been a bit of a letdown). Florida also has never had a Black full-time head football coach. The drawback: Would he leave, and would Florida be his first option if he does? Franklin’s clock might be ticking at Penn State, but he’s dropped hints that a new commitment to the school may be forthcoming. All eyes are on a meeting of the Penn State compensation committee scheduled for Tuesday.

Pat Forde is obviously pretty stupid. Did he hear UF's rationale for firing Mullen? No way Franklin makes the list even if no extension.

I just read it. Not sure what part of what he said would exclude Franklin.

edit: Nevermind I just saw your other post about the “sustained success.” Sorry! Although I don’t agree that excludes Franklin. But that’s JMO. I think they need a really good recruiter and Franklin clearly fits that criteria. I wonder if they will reach out to the eagles about the QB coach Johnson I think his name is? Pretty sure he came from UF last year. Who knows. I’m spending way too much time on this board tonight because my kids all fell asleep hours ago and my husband is an Ohio State fan and rolls his eyes at me about my “coaching carousel” theories.

I can't see Franklin going to Florida and playing the likes of Georgia and Bama every year! He's only beaten tOSU once, won 1 division and 1 B10 title. There is no way in hell he would succeed in Florida/SEC. He's in a real good place here, and he knows it.

Just as a point of order Franklin was 11-13 at Vanderbilt in SEC games. That isn't exactly winning in the SEC.

In fairness, Vanderbilt in the SEC before Franklin took over - 1-15. And since Franklin left - 10-54. That is losing over 86% of their conference games, before and after Franklin's arrival.

11-13 in conference at Vanderbilt is probably a tougher accomplishment than going 11-1 every year at Penn State.

Regardless of what Franklin’s new powerhouse agency professes FLA has zero interest in him. Nor should they. Along with any of the top 10 gigs. He hired agency and fired his good friend to position him at PSU. Smoke and mirrors period.

Yeah and the narrative him pulling off big wins against the big boys is false. He beat a top 15 Georgia team once coached by Mark Richt and his perennially underachieving teams.

Vandy actually winning the SEC East would be akin to Rutgers winning the Big 10 East.

It's probably never going to happen with the opposition you face.

Still, coaching Vandy to a winning record is quite impressive regardless of whether he knocked off a Bama or similar type team.

Florida's interest in him is moot. Why would anybody want to go there right now? Mullen had a lifetime gig at Miss State and passed it up for basically nothing during his stint at Florida.
