I like the nickname. I never put creativity past Mr. Smoot. My favorite story is when he ordered a pizza for himself to practice his senior year. Ask Melvin SMith about it next time any of you run into him he loves telling people about that.

he plays golf routinely out at the university course and attends most alumni golf tournaments and bulldog club functions around the state. I would say he is one, if not the most, accessible coaches we have. That's why I bring it up.

So since Melvin goes to alumni events and plays golf in Starkville I'm insane? Ok buddy. Just because you are to chicken **** to go talk to him doesn't make me, or anyone else on this board, for that matter insane. You want to hear it, don't be a ***** and find out yourself.

Good Lord. I don't live in Starkville. I'm only going to be there for football games. If I saw Melvin Smith on a regular basis, I'd definitely ask him. Chances are 80% of this board doesn't talk to him. You're not insane because you talk to him. You're insane because instead of telling the story you just say "ask Melvin" like it'd be drastically improved if we did.

and then let us know what he says. Because like Kissenger pointed out, most of us see Melvin maybe once a year or two

during his senior year Fred called a local pizza delivery service (don't remember which one) and asked them to deliver pizza to the practice field at lets say around 4:30 - 5 o'clock (enter Melvin's details). The delivery guy walks out on the practice field and says he has a pizza for a Mr. Smoot. The managers at the time signal to Fred to come over to the sideline and collect his pizza. At this point Smoot starts to eat the pizza and pass out slices to the guys on the scout team. JWS, of course thinks this is great and just laughs through it. But like I said if you ever, by some magical stoke of luck, run across Melvin, ask him about it because its a good one with all of the details.

Thus begins Dante Walker's arduous journey toward the 290 mark. And the 400 pound linemen. And the utter implosion of Mississippi State football. Thanks, Fred.
