Hallelujah! Free at last!
I am very excited about the news that John Cohen is likely going to be our next baseball coach. I am looking forward to seeing MSU play good baseball again! He is the kind of coach MSU baseball needs right now, someone that is motivated to do well, wants to take MSU to the top of the college baseball world, and more importantly wants to win. This is a man who has shown that he can win in the SEC at one of the most difficult places to win at baseball. He also knows about our traditions and what our fans expect from MSU baseball. I look forward to having teams that are fundamentally sound again, making pitching changes at appropriate times, that can play Earl Weaver style baseball, and at the same time play small ball based on the game situation. I look forward to seeing our players steal bases and be aggressive, and also play great defense. Cohen has shown that he is a great recruiter, and if he can recruit at Kentucky, you better believe that he can recruit at MSU.
As far as the players, I don't really care if he yells at them or whatever, but I do think that he is going to force the players to play at a much higher level. I think that they will appreciate it, although they may be upset right now- I really don't know how they feel. Cohen is one of the most innovative college coaches I have ever seen. Listening to him teach hitting- I saw him on TV do this- was just a lot of fun. He knows his stuff, and is creative. He must bring in a new pitching coach- I would like us to get Virginia's now that Henderson is the new UK coach, but I probably will be OK with whoever, and a new hitting coach.
This is a breath of fresh air for MSU baseball, one that is much needed. One that says that the good ol' boys are out and new days are ahead of MSU. Hopefully, this will help lead to other changes for MSU baseball- namely extending the grandstands down the baselines, and of course Diamond Girls in bikinis.
Welcome John! Go KICK SOME ***! WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
