From a Gator fan this past weekend...

I played golf down in Palm Beach this past weekend with a huge Gator fan. He said and I quote "To get tickets to our games now, you must cough up $12,000 to get tickets and not be put on a waiting list. I've backed off committing because it's getting too pricey. That 12k will get you 4 tickets and that is where they decide to put you, not club level. That's a bunch more". We spoke in depth about this and he said that they advertise smaller packages but you will just get put on a waiting list. He said that tickets are in such high demand the the athletic dept. can pick and choose by the highest bidder. He also said that alot of people hire individuals to scalp them to recover some of their money from their contribution. All I can say is we've got it pretty good compared to other schools. My Bama employees are trying to get their tickets and they are getting harder to get. Same situation, gotta pay for those coaches and facilities so corporations are moving in and driving the common fan out.

So you think not contending for SEC & BCS championships every year is good as long as ticket are easy to come by?

That's the best thing I've read on here in a long time. Sadly, this sentiment is shared by many a MSU supporter.

Who cares if we suck as long as we can get cheap tickets!!!

Sure is a lot easier to get Devil Rays tickets than it is to get Red Sox tickets. I'd much rather pull for the Devil Rays.

And yes I'm aware they dropped the Devil from their name, but that doesn't mean I can't call them the Devil Rays.

Sure I would love to win SEC titles and who wouldn't, but I look at it as the real value of what you getting in the way of "entertainment" dollars. MSU, Ole Miss, Vandy and maybe Kent. are attainable. Every other school either has waiting lists or committments of serious monies. I live in B-ham and the common fan is getting pushed out for the big bucks @ Bama. Same at LSU. Corporations are moving in from an investment standpoint and pushing the fan out. It's cheaper for a big corp. to commit 25k for 10 seats and give them to customers over a season versus trying to rent a house in Augusta. But for you and me, that's a lot of cash. Hate to see it happening but it's the way things are.

I know a Nebraska grad who never go to see a football game the whole time he was in school there. That sucks big time.

Would you really want to be a perennial national contender if it meant you'd probably never get to attend a game again? Let that sink in. Never attend again. And back up a couple decades (don't know how old you are). Imagine if you'd only been to a few games in your lifetime and most people you knew were about the same. How big of a fan would you be? As much of a fan as you are now?

Sure I know some huge gator fans - fans that never see games in person and they're still big fans. But in a way I feel sorry for them that they don't know what its like to really be a part of the program.

I'm not saying I'd prefer MSU to not be successful so that I can continue to see games. But I don't want to be shut out of the program either.

because that's exactly what it is. I walked up to the stadium in Tuscaloosa last year and bought tickets for $40 a pop. Non-alumni can call in and order tickets as well. I've always been able to get tickets to any away game I choose for under $50.

I'm not saying that college football isn't moving toward what you just described. But it's a stretch. 12 grand? Give me a break.

And for the record, if that did ever happen, I'd gladly watch us win a National Title on TV. I'll come and tailgate and watch other games on my antenna TV.

So the demand at Nebraska is so high, that they don't even sell to students. I could be wrong, but this sounds like BS.

I have 3 Bama employees that have season tickets. One is the decendant of a letterman so they get by the Tide Pride BS. Only problem, they've been purchasing tickets from the Univ. for over 40 years in her grandfathers(player) name. They had 45 yard line seats 6 years ago. Now they have been moved up top and are reducing the number that they can get. It's all about the money. As for my "********" goat, have you ever looked at a census map around Gainsville? Do a little research and you'll find that there is shitload of folks around that school within 150 mile radius. It's a whole different world outside of Starkvegas. Maybe you got lucky on that La. Monroe ticket from last year.

That's a really easy one. And the answer is Yes in a heartbeat. If I had to choose between what we get at Ole Miss and MSU, but getting to have season tickets, or getting to be a perennial contender and maybe only seeing 1 game a year or 1 game every other year, I'll choose the latter. The experience is great, and it's a big part of it, but I'd rather win.

Alchula County 250,000 populatoin---The Swamp 100,000+ capacity

Oktibbeha County 40,000 population--- Davis Wade 55,000+ capacity

By these numbers, Florida should sell out every sports event held.

Well explain the people on stubhub selling their marked up tickets for half of the figure your friend quoted.

the guy had Gator tee's for crying out load. That should be proof enough. He did say what you just posted and that alot of alumni go thru Stubhub instead of the Univ. He now leans on corporate buddies for tickets.

He is talking about purchasing season tickets in advance.

I don't know the situation in Gainesville. However, I know for a fact (in-laws and friends of in-laws) that a $1,000 contribution in Knoxville only gets you an upper deck SEASON ticket. Now, you can walk up on game day and get them for face and slightly lower. But to get a season ticket, you got to give at least $1,000.

This year, when we played UT in the Jewel, I had a UT fan ask me if his ticket was fake because it had a face value of $16.00. I said, no, that is the real price and explained the mini-pack deal. As his face went pale, he told me he paid $80 for the ticket.

I've got season tickets to Fla. games and have had for 20 years. I give my standard $2,000 contribution to be in the "gator nation". I get my same 4 seats every year. Only problem, my seats keep getting worse. Now I'm up top and can't see. Sound familiar. See previous post. I said that if you wanted to join in the fun "out of the gate" they want even consider you unless your coughing it up.

It depends. Sororities and fraternities get blocks of tickets for their members. I think they cost around $300 per student for the season. If you're non-Greek, they have a lottery starting with seniors, then juniors, etc. Not only is there a huge demand for student tickets, but you have an assigned seat as well (or block section in the case of Greeks). I have a friend who is currently at Nebraska, and she said that it's pretty common for students to get season tickets and never go to the games. They just scalp them every weekend. Apparently, a student ticket at the UNL/USC game this past year ran around $800-900.

Her roommate and roommate's boyfriend were (and still are/married now) "poser" gator fans... They bought alumni stickers for their car off eBay, bought Gator Club Booster (or whatever the name is) stickers for their car, decked out in UF gear every day almost.... But also they bought student tickets for each season on eBay for $1,000 EACH.. this was 4 years ago. Some indian dude would win the lottery for a ticket and sell his tickets on eBay. They would have to meet him somewhere in florida and make the exchange and then again with the next one so they would have 2 tickets.

They would drive to gainsville every weekend...

Neither one of them had any ties to the school other than the boy liked Florida and the girl was like my Ole Miss friends wives that didn't go to Ole Miss but now act like they have been a rebel their whole life. I imagine if this girl got divorced and married a Memphis fan she would be the biggest Tiger fan starting on day 2.

If you go to the Fla. website you will see that they have divisions of "giving". Under those divisions, they say that you are eligible for up to so many tickets based on your "contribution". The same as our BC. What they put in fine print that gives them an out is (based on availability). So to keep it simple, if you go up to the window and want to be in their "Gator Club" for the FIRST time, you'd better have 12k or they are going to tell you that there is a waiting list. That simple enough.

You got it, Flab. I'm young, but can't imagine never being able to attend a game aGAIN. I don't know what I'd do with fall Saturday home weekends if I didn't have a game to attend. I want to win as much as anyone, but if you can't be a part of the program, is it really worth it? College sports in general are becoming way too controlled by big business. Eventually, there has to be a showdown, and when that happens, the common fan will be the one that loses. Sounds like it's already starting to happen.

a few years ago. They held a lottery essentially to see which students would get tickets. One year only one of my friends that went there at the time got picked, but they always found ways to get tickets for everyone. We often take for granted the fact that if you want tickets at State you can get them. That's not the case at the bigger programs which have larger enrollments, alumni bases, and more sustained success. $12K sounds aweful steep, you don't have to give that much to get into UTenn, FSU, etc, but you can believe the number is far, far higher than anything State fans would ever have to pay.

"Holiday Inn Express" on them.

I think, under your theory, I am in danger of rupturing the fabric of space-time.

they get the crowd down there only because of Bama. It's an "ugly stepsister wannabe" sympton that causes these idiots to show up in what is 2nd only to Starkville as a stadium in the sticks.
Look what they've done with Tubby and still-no respect. Bama has been pitiful and they still put 90,000 in their stands for spring game.
