Let's see some results this year on the field. Anything less than 9-3 for this team is failure. There needs to be a victory over UM to thwart their momentum. Right now talk is cheap. Time to earn that massive contract.

Franklin, ā€œprevious regime was hired in reaction to what happenedā€ā€¦Thatā€™s right coach, 11.9/11 BOT needed the hired mouthpieces to do their biddingā€¦their hires had nothing to do with what was best for PSUā€¦

Eric Barron came from a football factory that won a national championship during his term. As much as I dislike him, it's hard to believe he did not understand the importance of football

Nice to see Big Game James take a stab or two at Sandy, who richly deserves it

I think there's a difference between an AD that understands the benefits of football, and an AD that is all in on football. Programs like LSU and Bama are often cited as examples of the latter, where the AD is in lockstep with the football coach and supports them 100%, and also helps to ensure the university president does the same.

I honestly wish I could be optimistic about Franklin.

I just feel like heā€™s the human reincarnation of Lucy snatching the football away from Charlie Brown.

So many games right there for the Wā€¦..but given way.
On the one hand his comments are a damning indictment of Barbour and Baron. But James strikes me as a guy who can't help but be involved in things he should stay out of. I always remember during the covid season he almost bragged about how he is the one at practice that had to make sure everyone was wearing their masks properly. Can't imagine Saban, Dabo and Day were doing that. But taking this as a positive for James, and he now has people he trusts and can now just coach ball, there can be no more excuses for some of the horrible losses in recent years.

Barron is an incompetent, empty suit (albeit a big suit). Check the academic rankings at both FSU and OSU. Enough said.

I know its an excuse but i do think 2 factors contributed to our 2 season slide...1) Covid 2) Ciarocca hire.

I think this is the year we get back on track and get back to annual double digit wins. Franklin has reason to be optimistic.

I think Covid wiped us out as far as preparing for '20 went. No spring practice. We came back for summer ball leading into fall camp and then the kids were sent home after the season was canceled.

Then, game on, we rushed to come back and play.

I don't blame Kirk C for the '20 season near as much as I blame JF for not deciding that installing a different offense from what had been in place since '16 was a bad idea.

Hindsight is 20/20. We are probably 3-5 years away from knowing what the better move should have been. Would we have gotten last year's offensive recruits without Yurcich? I don't think so, at least not all of them. Perhaps Allar at a minimum.

Problem with using COVID as an excuse for poor performance is every program had to deal with it. Just shows we didnā€™t deal with it as well as others. We did finish strong in 2020 and I think that helped with 2021ā€™s fast start, but everything collapsed at Iowa, which should have never happened.

Take the last half of 2020 and the first half of 2021, and itā€™s a good season.

I'm with you in that we dealed with it horribly. Our coach approached it like we were going to get sanctioned if we were caught practicing and not obeying the mask rules.

I highly doubt OSU nor Alabama did. If specific kids were scared, opt out. If not, balls to the wall. Win.

CJF is an emotion coach as opposed to an Xs and Os coach. During the COVID season, not being with his family was obviously dragging him down and understandably so. I feel like that drained the team of emotion

Right - I feel like the team got it together halfway through the season (as things started looking better for the virus, etc.). And they redeemed the season with a Michigan win (always a good thing!) and it carried them through the Iowa game. Not having a serviceable back-up QB killed our season because of that game. Mustipher going down hurt too, but have to be able to call a play without a false start or fumble....

Everything collapsed two weeks later against Illinois. The season wasn't lost after the Iowa game.

Franklion needs to focus on football and set his sights on Wisky and take over the #2 spot in the B1G. That is attainable at this time. O$U is not!

FYI, the eight years before Franklion (2006-13) the top five in B1G football based on record were O$U, Wisky, PSU, MSU, and Michigan.

In the last five years, the Franklion years (20014-21), the top five are O$U, Wisky, Iowa, Michigan, and PSU.

Yes, they have slipped in the Franklion years.

Might be true, but it's a crappy excuse.
