My neighbor - Kade Kern - was drafted last week out of Ohio State (yes, that is only about the third time ever I have used the school's name properly) and is now in the Braves organization. His dad texted me this afternoon to say Kade's roommate is Dru Hackenberg. I sent a text to Kade saying he needs to give his roomy a hearty "We Are". I doubt that will happen.

The town I live in is Archbold, OH. All 4,500 people and average graduating classes of 100. This past draft there was Kade taken in the 17th round of the draft and Jeron Williams - University of Toledo - was taken in the 9th round by the Astros. Kade's freshman year was tremendous, but last season struggled. Jeron led the nation in stolen bases, batted .403 and was MAC player of the year. Kade is older by a year.

Both players will tell you it started in 6th grade math in my classroom. :) Jeron played 8th grade football for me as well.

Great couple of guys from good families. Town is pretty excited for them. The nights they were drafted were the championship games of the local town league. Both guys were in the dugouts with 10-11 year old kids chopping it up.

Thanks for letting me babble.

I can confirm that a lot of good things start in a mathematics classroom. I’m sure you were a hell of a teacher. Your students were lucky.

Mathematics classrooms are where boys and girls learn to multiply with each other.....
