Could the B10 decision makers be moving towards two new divisions? They would be the original 10 Big Ten teams in one division and everyone else in the other division? This would appease the old school B10 fans and alumni who want things as close to the way things used to be before PSU adulterated their conference along with Neb, Md and Rut.

Get to 20, do 4 groups of 5. Play each of the other teams in your group plus one other group and you have nine conference games.

This is the b1g.

wolverine division: um* and nine schools

buckeye division: T™️osu and nine schools

End the regular season with THE. GAME. o_O , and if when the stars align, have THE. GAME. o_O Part 2 for the conference championship.

Four divisions- sell naming rights to each. So maybe:

Microsoft Division
Toyota Division
Hyundai Division
Apple Division

Maybe have corporate logos on the helmets and sing a corporate fight song at the half (for an additional NIL contribution, pf course). Individual players can of course also sell space on their jerseys to non-competing businesses for added revenue.

So Cheat-again and the Suckeyes with the terrible Big10 west? Sounds like a perfect set up for continued focus on the darlings of the conference.

The only flaw in your plan is the (although highly improbable) possibility of a regular season loss (I’m certain though that the BIG could institute some post game review policy to overturn the outcome) bye UM or OSU. Better to ignore the seasons results, and just automatically schedule THE GAME and THE GAME PART 2 on an annual basis.

Brilliant, NASCAR has already set the precedent. Once the Universities wake up and cover the playing field with corporate ads we’re good to go.

Michigan Division = northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, msu

Ohio State division = Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers and Maryland.

Penn state division = Oregon, Washington, USC, Iowa.

Who cares division = the rest.

this way, the Big Ten can basically assure that Michigan and Ohio State will be the only undefeated in conference

you have the eastern most and western most schools in the same division, the other division is the old Big Ten (when there was 10 teams)

Add FSU and 1 more (UVA, VT?) Then make four divisions of 5 teams each. The west teams can still play each other every year and minimize travel expenses somewhat.

That would be good for football. I selfishly included the idea of UVa and VT for several reasons. Easy road trips for away games and both have wrestling teams. UVA also has fantastic bball, lacrosse, and baseball teams. Both are also highly regarded academic institutions. In the past, that was one of the considerations for B1G acceptance.

I can't tell if this is serious or just idle chatter, but there is zero reason for the Big Ten (or any conference) to return to divisions. There is obvious reasons why everyone has dropped them now that they could. With larger conferences, divisions mean you see opponents even less often. Divisions also makes it more likely to have a subpar team in the championship game (e.g. Iowa this season)

My original post was completely fun speculation and idle chatter. In fact, it was supposed to be seen as sarcastic and somewhat conspiratorial to anybody who somewhat or totally believes the old school B10 fans and powers that be never liked other teams joining, including PSU. If, by bringing in 10 total "extra" teams, it would allow the B10 to put all the original teams in one division which is what they always wanted. If not for the extra $$$ PSU and other teams bring to the conference, the B10 would have never expanded in the first place. So, through careful planning and manipulation of the system, the old school original B10 could still exist in its own division while reaping the monetary benefits of adding 10 new teams and putting them all in their own separate division. The B10 would then get the best of both worlds.

Maybe Fairgambit enterprises can sponsor a division?
