Sorry if Germans. I've got them coming out in the morning to install my new HD DVR. Right now all they list is ABC, NBC and CBS locals in HD. I assume FOX and PBS will be added shortly. Can't wait to see ESPN in HD for the first time.

ESPN is great. HD theater is maybe better. That's if you want to watch polar bears and rain forrests. But it's still cool to look at. I have directv and I don't get my locals in HD. I use an over the air antanne (sp) to get them from the Jackson stations. ABC, NBC and CBS look unbelievable over that thing. Better than my Comcast HD did for the same channels.

Well, I've tried the antenna. I can get CBS (12), ABC (16), and PBS (29) in good, and the rest not so good. FOX is extremely weak, and I've never been able to bring in even a weak signal for NBC (3). So going with a provider was my only option. I contemplated comcast, since they were the only ones offering locals, but I just couldn't being myself to go back to cable. Now that dish has finally added the locals in hd, I should be good. I'm sure since dish has worked out the local contracts, directv will be right behind.</p>

Since AT&T, now partners with Dish Network, I am thinking of making the switch and bundling the services. I don't have HD with directv because the damn satellite is too big to mount to the balcony at my apartment. I have heard that Dish has a smaller HD dish. I also wonder how their services compare?

but I can tell you through my research that dishnetwork's dvr is rated the best. Of course, that's one of the reasons they were sued by tivo. But they consistently rate better than direct or comcast.

I'll let the former or current direct guys give you the low down on the rest.

My complaints are 1) it doesn't have dual buffers (can't switch over to the other tuner and then rewind), and 2) recently, DirecTV has been placing ads in the channel guide. Its the same size as the program info for one channel, so its a thin banner with an ad in it. At least it scrolls off with the rest of the channels and doesn't float there.

DirecTV says Jxn locals are "coming this year" but this is from the same company who 2 years ago spammed us all with "150 HD channels" and has thus far shrunken, not expanded, their HD lineup. They still don't have 150 HD channels. And the freaking have VS and Golf HD sharing the same channel. Once they even had golf going instead of the NHL playoff game what was on VS.

I noticed several weeks ago DishNetwork started broadcasting locals in the 9200 series, but they are not HD yet. Any idea when these channels will make the switch to HD?

.....suck major ***. All kinds of blurring problems when they switch cameras and at various other times. This doesn't happen with live sports on other channels for me, so I know it's not a problem with my TV.
