One of those rusty starts again. Happens often with college pitchers

It’s one thing to have to throw strikes…

They are going to make us throw strikes

But it’s another thing to pitch like Smith had tonight. Strikes don’t even seem like an option unless it’s a meatball down the middle.

This season reminds me of the Family Guy scene where they all are throwing up all over the place.

The Florida closer is a disaster…

Not a good looking start

Between Clark’s pansy *** swing on the ball inside in the 8th and our aggressive approach in the ninth, I’m about to ******* puke. All we had to do was let that little **** implode, and we refused.

Thought same thing. Why are we swinging at first pitch. Guy wasn’t throwing strikes consistently

The difference in good and bad teams is a good team doesn't swing at 2-0 pitch while trying to get the tying run on base when the pitcher was struggling horribly. A bad team (92nd in rpi) swings at a pitch 2-0 that almost hits him and it's a dribbler to the pitcher. That AB is a snap shot of our pathetic season

I looked up at the scoreboard when we came up to bat in the 4th inning and the Florida pitcher had thrown like 17 pitches through the 3rd inning. 17 pitches to get 9 outs is not helping our cause. That Florida pitcher was consistently at 96-98 mph all the way through. He wasn’t trying to fool anybody-he was mainly throwing straight heat. Our kids were trying to hit bombs from what it looked like. Their starter began trying to throw more off-speed stuff as he got further into the game, but his fastball was still hitting 96 when they took him out. Not a big guy at all-but he can generate velo.

Riopelle (Florida's catcher) had a decent day at the plate in Game 1.

1st AB: single, with bases loaded, 2 RBI

2nd AB: HR, with two runners on and 2 outs in the inning, 3 more RBI

3rd AB: single to lead off the inning (he later scored in the inning)

4th AB: double, with two runners on and 2 outs in the inning, 1 more RBI

5th AB: walked, with one runner on and 2 outs in the inning (did not score)

Okay, so he was 4-4 with 6 RBI and 2 runs scored.

That performance fits the definition of "timely hitting." "One-man wrecking crew" would also be appropriate.

One additional item: the 2 players following Riopelle in the order were 0-10 with 4 Ks.

Can we talk about Forsythe getting on base 4 times, 2 hits and 2 walks? Scored a run and had 1 rbi.

At one point we swore he was killing us batting below .200. Now he’s becoming mr consistent and we still can’t win.

Forsythe is now batting .295 for the season: 1 2B, 1 3B, 29 rbi, 12 bb.

Thankfully Lane was motivated to improve by these grown men coaching him up on the internet from their couch.
