I watched Sundays game and it was a great game for the Aces, especially the second half. However what caught my attention was Marine Johannes. I don't ever remember seeing her play but damn ! How can you make shots (3 pointers)off balance ,on one leg falling sideways ......over and over again ? She got hot and in a zone in that first half. I was wondering where she played college ball and looked her up. She didn't play college ball .She is from France and turned pro at 17 years of age. She cooled off in the 2nd half which was good news for the Aces. Very streaky player and it only takes one to kill you . (c clark)

They should lower the rim to 9 or 9 1/2 feet. I'll watch our women play at Carolina but watching a WNBA game is brutal.

I have made the lower the rim argument before concerning Women's Basketball. However, female basketball players tend to get offended with that as they seem to be fixated on the notion that anything a man can do a woman can do. Sometimes, that notion defies simple genetics on what can or cannot be done. With that said, there is beauty in the below the rim style of female basketball. If you appreciate fundamentals and the strategy of the game, then you should be able to enjoy it. Yes, the athleticism is not the same. A rim scraping dunk by a female barely getting over a 10 foot rim is not the same as a LeBron James Tomahawk. However, the WNBA can be an enjoyable product if accept the players for what they are and appreciate the work and skill that they put into the game.

They get offended with comments about lowering the rim. They say they can do anything that men do, yet they play with a smaller ball.

Nah, he can't do that. He wants to control how people think, but doesn't want anyone to control anything that he does. Probably one of those guys that refused to take the Covid vaccine, but wants to tell everybody else what to do.
Don't you mean one of those guys who took the vaccine and demanded everybody else do the same. That would make more sense.

I think the NBA should raise the rim to 11 feet.
I sense the sarcasm, but you may have a point. I just think the styles of play need to be more equal especially when the WNBA is relying on men to accept their sport.

It's actually the same thought process. That's why extremes on both sides suck. ....and getting in this thread bothering people that were minding their own business is a form of extreme behavior.

A great game for the Aces, they put on a clinic today. A'ja Wilson proving she's the best player in the world despite being snubbed for MVP.
Aces have a lot more than A'ja though. Chelsea Gray was fantastic. Plum is a dynamo when she gets going too. Just an excellent team.

Absolutely, Chelsea, Jackie and Plum have been great in this final series. But it doesn't work without A'ja holding it down on both ends. Especially considering that NY has two MVPs in their prime that A'ja has to battle every night. It's very much a team win but she along with Chelsea are the most pivotal pieces.

Have at it. I don’t watch the NBA either. You didn’t comment on my point about the women playing with a smaller basketball though. Aren’t they capable of playing with the men’s basketball? If not, why?

Maybe it's the size of a mans hand vs a Woman's hand. Some of those NBA dudes look like they could "palm" a beach ball.

The announcer said on Wed that Kelsey PLum played at Duke . I thought she played at Washington or some Pacific NW school.

Why would they be offended when the ball they use is smaller than the men’s.

Women's sports and men's sports often have different rules, as do high school and college. Rules change over the years. The dunk was not allowed for years, now it is legal. The ABA had a three point line, the NBA did not until 1978. MLB had different rules between American League and National League for over 50 years. Why should the WNBA have to have the same rule book as the NBA,

It is okay that you cannot name one team…but thank goodness there are others who recognize women’s teams.
You should cut to the chase and say "thank goodness the NBA is willing to fund the WNBA". Otherwise, the WNBA would not even exist. WNBA players play before smaller crowds than they did in college and some of them make less money than they made from NIL in college.

I cannot think of any women's team sports that have any sort of following that would justify their being on tv. Women's individual sports like tennis do attract large enough numbers of viewers to justify tv coverage. Women's team sports being shown on tv is nothing more than sports affirmative action.

Any league takes time to build. It took the NBA 30 years to build into what it has become. I remember back in the 70s staying up until 11:30pm to watch tape delayed games on weekends. The 1980 Magic Johnson, all five positions game, in the NBA Finals was on tape delay. Let that sink in. It was not until the 1981 Finals that all NBA Finals games were on live television. The WNBA's biggest obstacle is that women just don't make sports appointment television like men do. So, the WNBA is forced to depend on men to support their product. A hard sell if you are one of those guys that expect to see the same type of game that the men provide. Women's Basketball will always be a below the rim game that depends more on fundamentals. Some older basketball fans prefer that. My 87 year old dad, a former H.S. basketball coach, loves it. It's appointment television for him and my sister. I mainly watch USC's women because I enjoy seeing the Gamecocks whoop up on people, especially UConn. I have never gotten into the WNBA like that, but I follow a little bit. I know enough to recognize most of the teams especially the ones with former Gamecocks on them.

As an aside to the smaller ball issue that I have seen some on the thread. The women's ball is smaller, but it's only an inch in diameter smaller. It's not this big noticeable difference. The average person that hasn't played a lot of basketball wouldn't know the difference. I think some of the players forget this when they become indignant about the lower the rim argument. The smaller makes it a little easier to handle for the ladies and makes it a little easier to make shots, but it is not a glaringly big difference.

She did play at Washington, Chelsea Gray played at Duke. They could have misspoke because the names Chelsea and Kelsey does sound very similar.

I think the statement was "she played at Duke from 2000 to 2002 ".. Don't hold me to the years. I was just wondering if she transferred and why. But yeah, she probably did a Beth Mowins there.

You’re missing the point. People have suggested lowering the rim to 9’ in the women’s game so that the dunk will bring excitement to the league. WNBA players get offended by that because they say that insinuates that they can’t do what the men do. At the same time, the women play with a smaller ball.

Who are "the people" who have suggested this? If I ever heard that suggestion it was about 10 years ago when some guy wrote an article about how to improve all sports, including making a NBA game 60 minutes long and field goals in football different point amounts based on the length of the kick.

So…should we do away with women’s sports?

Need an ACES win today and a "birdie flew " to get the bad taste out of my mouth from the FB game
Well, it didn't happen on Sunday for the ACES. Without C .Gray I am not confident that the Aces can pull it off.

You should just Google it. Many, many, many people have suggested it.

No, but we should stop pretending anyone really gives a s**t about them outside of the player's friends, families, the lesbian community and all the "girl power" crowd.

Ten million homes tuned in to the NCAA WBB finals last year. The was more than the Stanley Cup finals and many of the baseball playoff games. Also more than most USC football games. That's a lot of nobodies.

I think College WBB is a much better product than the WNBA.
