When I lived in Anderson over 30 years ago, there were a lot of fans and alumni. Certainly not as strong as Greenville or Spartanburg but a lot of us Gamecocks there none the less....If you look over the years since, lots of kids from that area have excelled in Gamecocks athletics.

Before we joined the SEC, UGA used to go into Anderson and recruit, not so much anymore. It's nice to see 3 recruits from TL Hanna committing to Carolina. Course one thing to keep in mind, is that Hanna, Westside, Belton-Honea Path are the biggest schools in the area til you get back to Greenville so there is never going to be a ton of talent like you would have in Greenville/Spartanburg.

I also grew up in Anderson. While I don't disagree with Accock that Anderson is saturated with Taters, I think the Gamecock population is much bigger than most people in other parts of the state would assume, especially among the professional population.

As for the talent level in Anderson, while the population is nowhere near the size of Greenville County, Anderson County is still in the top 10 in the state in population, at almost 210,000. It's way too big of a recruiting ground to cede to Clemson. In addition to the 3 schools you listed, don't forget about Crescent, Palmetto, Pendleton, and Wren. It's great to see the Gamecocks going in there with some earnestness to recruit.

Other than the positive publicity, it's hard to get too excited because mlb comes along flashing big bucks and he's off to see the wizard and never touches our campus. we can now offer some pay but still will be hard pressed to match mlb $$$. Being a college baseball coach has always struck me as the toughest jobs cause of this. Hard to know who you will end up with. The better players the better chances he loses them.
