Bart sprayed it with roundup about a month ago to kill off the perennial ryegrass on the field so that the Mississippi Choice bermudagrass will not have to compete as it is coming out of dormancy. MS Choice bermuda is a horizontal growing grass by nature, so naturally if perennial rye is present when it is trying to come out of dormancy, it will take longer to green up. This means, that our field will be game day quality in late June according to him. So, a green field now means that their field will struggle to grow all summer. I'd rather have a so called brown field for a practice game than to have a brown field when the cameras are on. It's funny how people forget that our field was voted the best field in the country in 2003. If anything, the quality of our field has been getting better since that time, not worse.
