Says team lost respect for SOS following his comments after the Vandy game which contributed to the team going from 3-1 to 7-6.

Exactly. If you want to know how coaches "lose the locker room", this is a good way to start. The Dixon boys were tough as nails...before anyone chimes in and claims they're soft.

What might have been in 2014. Aside from the A&M and Clemson games, our other 4 regular season losses were by a combined 18 points. Led Mizzou 20-7 with just over 7 minutes left in the game. Then there was the infamous Jojo Kemp game vs UK. Lost an intense back and forth shootout with Auburn. Then blew a 14-point lead against UT with less than 5 minutes left in the game to lose in OT (UT tied game on an 85 yard TD drive that in just over one minute of play).

A hair's breadth from another 10 or 11 win season.

And just when you think that nightmare of a season has finally been forgotten, a post appears... : 0

I guess it's easier for them to blame SOS than to accept that they didn't play well enough to win the games.

I guess it's easier for SOS to blame them than accept responsibility for not having the team prepared enough to win games. See how that works?

That season was screwed from the moment Lorenzo Ward said I don’t know why don’t you ask the D line coach when asked if a player had been practicing.

Brother, we were miles away from double-digit wins. Tell you what, I knew after the 2014 opener that the sun had set on the Spurrier regime. People of my acquaintance more knowledgeable than I knew the same thing and we talked about it at the time. Not only had player talent diminished, but the staff had declined also. We were a mere figment of what we had been before.

Between Zo saying that, Jr saying he didn't like talking on the phone after being promoted to recruiting coordinator, and Deke & Botkin fighting on the sideline, wasn't hard to see the train was off the rails.

I get it and we all know that now. But you just look at the results of the games. The Mizzou, UK and UT losses were just inexplicable. Obviously we did lose them, which is all that matters, but if we make one more play in each of those games, it’s a 9 win regular season.

Everyone knew it. But just like today no one wanted to admit the coach wasn’t getting it done.

The "edge" that had characterizes the previous three or four seasons was never evident - just never. It's the lack of an "edge" that separates many teams from special seasons.

Spurrier never should have come back after 2014, just as Holtz never should have come back after 2002. He was already tanking. I went up to Virginia early in the season and saw that @$$-kicking up there and knew that the special sauce had already run out.
