I'll be glad when its over tomorrow. And unless he shocks everybody, and chooses us, I'm pretty much 'yawn'.....

Yeah, it'd be nice if he reclassified and picked us, but I'm sure he'll follow standard protocol and end up at UNC. Can't fault him I guess for going the easy route.

Guess I wouldn't fault him if he chose UMass.

Kind of ironic that in the year Frank actually had a legitimate shot to land an elite in-state prospect, the team crapped the bed and he got canned.

He doesn't sound too enthused about us, but we'll see. I'm sure it'll end being the usual UNC or Duke. Same old, same old.

Thinking he may shock us by creating something new at USC as the big fish instead of just another fish in the big UNC pond. Hoping anyway:cautious:

I hope you're right...but I think you're wrong :)

None of the top recruits are interested in creating anything. They're one-and-done so they don't really have any ability to do that.

You are probably right - its the sad state of college basketball today. All about the money! Liked it better when star player hung around a few years.

Well, you never know what you're going to get when you announce....the kid from Gaffney that picked Georgetown got booed out of the arena when he choose them over us...Maybe the same thing will happen tomorrow...

If you open it up to the public, and the public don't like the choice, they have every right to boo...

If you don't think that's the case, you've never watched showtime at the Apollo...

South Carolina: "I was very excited to meet "him" and see what he can bring to the table for South Carolina. Everything that he is saying can come true hopefully but the events that took place there is still shocking to me and how they let Frank [Martin] go." Him Who???? Nope Not Carolina

UMass: "When they let Frank go I was waiting to see which job he would get and when he landed at UMass I was really happy for him and his family. He immediately got on the phone with my parents and started discussing things. It still shows the love he had for me and him wanting me to come with him, showed that he wants me a lot." Nope Not UMass

Georgetown: "Me and coach [Louie] Orr talk a lot on the phone checking up on me and coach Ewing. They want me a lot too as well." Nope

North Carolina: "They're making a big run and it's still the same message from them that they want GG so it is constant love from them." Nope

Auburn: "They came and visited me two weeks ago, that was my first time seeing coach [Bruce] Pearl in person and I was kind of nervous to play in front of him. He went through a list of guys that I play like and showed me the position I would be in to help Auburn win basketball games." Nope

Duke: "They're also making a big run in the tournament. Some of the guys that committed to Duke, they're here at USA and they talk to me like I am one of them. It's for real a brotherhood there and they're talking to me about how they want to be the No. 1 recruiting class again." Nope

G League Ignite: "They have had a lot of success with getting guys to the NBA and the constant player development stuck out to me a lot. I feel like that would be a great example as well." This has been the leader all along he was never going to college.

And even - shockingly - earn a college degree!

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...
I appreciate your honesty in asking. I seem to recall that he did take pride in his players graduating (at least those few who made it through all four years). Of course, my memory may be faulty.

No, I was not being sarcastic.

wasnt sure if your comment was actually a backhanded dig at the attrition rate under Frank 😀

We could have been a blue blood if not for a short-sighted decision made 51 years and 1 month ago....
Yeah. And, I was gonna say, if the top in-state talent had stayed home over the years, we’d have a very solid program.

And had we not made that hasty decision in March 1971, the top in-state talent would likely have been more inclined to "stay home".

Ouch. Looks like Tanner screwed up again.

Doesn't matter anyway. We've proven that we care more about women's basketball than anything, so I doubt it would have made a difference.
You’re not suggesting we should’ve kept Frank to get GG are you?

Whether we got GG or not, I think we would be better off now if we would have kept him. I get why people wanted him fired, but I think we went cheap and downgraded. If we are willing to pay top dollar for a wbb coach, we should be willing to do it for mbb, especially consider it actually makes money instead of losing the most of any program at our school.

In summary, we are doing it wrong.

For those who have not already done so, please visit YouTube and search "Dawn Staley."

At this point, I think letting Frank go was the right move, and we got the best replacement which was available. While I don't expect a winning season for MBB in 2022-2023, I do expect growth and consistency, not the inconsistencies which plagued MBB during the Frank II era. Please, no one-and-dones, e.g., GG.

I hope Frank does keep in touch with his USC players and encourages them to be the best that they can be in all aspects of life. And having a coach like that at a DIII program for which athletics is a low priority - great. For better or worse, this does not work at a DI school in a P5 conference.

According to an article on Yahoo.com, it was an important consideration for GG to play for an African American Coach. He see his partnership with Hubert Davis as a John Thompson-Patrick Ewing type of relationship. He was not going to sign to play for Frank Martin.

We kid each other about worrying what 18 year olds will do but we also should put that as the same category as a journalist on a deadline with no consequences of being right or wrong. JMHO

I guess that's no different than someone who attended grade school in a parochial system wanting to attend a Catholic college....

But what if a white recruit had as an important consideration to play for a white coach? Or a white recruit had as an important consideration to play for a black coach? Or a black recruit had as an important consideration to play for a white coach? These should be no different than GG's approach.

Jackson is a very good ballplayer, but he couldn't tie Ewing's shoes.
