If he proves himself, he can actually come out ahead by being drafted in the second round or undrafted. 1st round picks get tied down to a team or contract for four years, and sometimes five, if they can't work out a long term deal. Seond round picks usually get only a two year deaf if anything. They can outperform that contract and get to a pretty big payday early while the 1st round picks are still waiting. A good example of that was Austin Reaves with the Lakers. Guy was undrafted, but made the team in Year 1. He became a starter in Year 2 and just signed a 4 Year, 56 Million Dollar deal.
