2 games later, the Pens win the first game of the series 4-3 in 3OT. I think they said Shersterkin set a record for saves in a playoff game with 79. Desmith had 50 plus saves before leaving in the third OT with what looked liked cramps. Domingue ended up with the win. Crazy game, not sure why they waived the Rangers goal off in the 3rd with 3 minutes left, but then NHL officiating in the playoffs can be both maddening and baffling.

Goalie interference was the reason given.

Geez, weakest goalie interference I've ever seen. Too bad for Sherterskin he didn't take a step out on the GWG because Malkin was in and out of the paint and it would have been an easy interference call.

I guess nobody has heard from @TheGlovStillRules yet?

Does anyone know if Glov had any immediate family in his household? I recall his mother died some years ago and he would alwasy post on the anniversary of her death (which was inspiring if not tough for an emotional wimp like me to read). Hoping he's still out there!

The Rangers, to me, are the most perplexing team in the playoffs. They’re a poor 5-on-5 team that got marginally better after the deadline additions. They lose 2/3 of their face offs. They got where they’re at on the backs of a spectacular season from Shesterkin, a formidable power play, and a career year from Kreider. Is that a formula for success in the postseason? I’m not sure. But I mentioned to a friend last week I could see the Rangers going out in the first round, and I could see them in the conference finals. Neither would surprise me.

IMHO, it was clearly interference. Kakko was blowing through the crease out of control. He would have taken DeSmith out whether he was pushed or not.

The Rangers really needed Game 1. They pooped the bed in that second period and ran out of gas in OT. Everything hinges on Game 2, if they lose the series is over.

I was surprised by how much fresher the Pens seemed in OT compared to the Rangers. The Pens star players are all in their mid 30's, it will be interesting to see how the teams respectively recuperate.

It’s only 1 game. But you don’t win one championship in 80 years by accident.

Considering the Pens 4th string goalie will be in the building tonight, things could get a little bumpy until either DeSmith or Jarry become available again. Also could use a goon from WBS to introduce himself to Mr. Lindgren’s jaw the way he met with Rakell’s…since the league didn’t want to step in, they're setting a precedent for teams to self-police.

Crosby is a possessed monster out there. Pens up 3-1 in the series with the 7-2 victory. Shersterkin now pulled in 2 straight games. Go figure.

If you’re a hockey fan this was one of the most exciting series in quite a while. Who knows maybe the Rangers are for real this year.

As much as I hated the outcome, the quality of play was quite high in the series. It's been quite a ride, but the Pens look like they'll be facing some fairly significant turnover this off-season.

I'm proud of the Pens. They play through injuries and nearly ousted a younger, healthier Rangers team with the best goalie in the league. Good show Penguins!!

Rangers are a talented young team…but they didn’t win this series because they were more talented than the Pens. I didn’t expect much from the Pens heading into this postseason, and I sure didn’t see enough from the Rangers to think they can compete with Colorado…unless the league continues to turn a blind eye to the likes of Trouba’s and Lindgren’s head hunting.

A question for those of you who are more knowledgeable about hockey than I. What or why did the Pens lose after having a 2 game series lead and 2 goal leads in two games? Not enough depth, poor 3rd and fourth lines, ran out of gas or just got outplayed?

Pens resign Rust at only $5.125MM/yr cap hit for 6 years. Wow, he could have easily hit 6 or 7 on the open market.
