I like it. We've got other needs we need to be allocating resources to than QB. But this gives us a solid backup if Sellers goes down at the least. Or, we find out this was a really good QB that just happened to be on a bad team and he beats LS out. I'd rather us continue to shore up WR, RB, and DL.

Some won’t like the take, but loading on small school and Vandy transfers doesn’t give me hope for the future…..

Given the need to buy the players, I'm not adverse to signing some players as depth, hopefully freeing up effort for some starters.

I can see strategically picking a player or two, but making that the bulk of our focus doesn't seem a viable strategy. So far we have offers out to transfers from: SC State, UT-Martin, Youngstown State, Ball State, Vandy, Arkansas State, Tennessee Tech, Penn, North Texas, Princeton and Southern Miss.

Outside of Vandy we have offers out to 5 P5 players.

Why would he transfer here just to be the backup?
He's not. He's transferring to a school that just lost their 2 year starting QB to the draft, with exactly 1 scholarship QB on the roster who is a RS Freshman. He's coming here to start. He'll either be good enough to be out Sellers, or provide much needed depth. Had a solid 2022. Battled injuries in 2023, but had a few really good games.

Because he will be a CEO somewhere in the not too distant future; doubt he’s looking nfl.
Then why not stay at Vanderbilt? I'm not disagreeing with you, just trying to understand someone's thought process. (Maybe he wants to be closer to the beach for a year.)

Are you trying to sell us on a QB with a career 56% completion rate?

No, but we have one QB on roster, one coming in 24. We need depth. Just saying from his standpoint, it's probably the best possible spot. What other SEC program lost their starter and has one QB on the roster?

Ok, yeah, I'm sure his mindset is to come in and compete for the starting job. And I'm sure the staff is telling him he'll have that chance. But I'm also sure the staff is fully counting on LaNorris being the guy in 2024. I'd say it would not bode well for us if Swann were to win the starting job.

I think he's perfectly fine and suitable in the depth role.

I don't know what some of you are thinking. We need a backup with some experience. We can't have Sellers as the starter and a true freshman as the backup. Swann would be a great option for a backup.

I agree. If we must use the portal, he fits the bill for a competent backup. The trick with going after a transfer QB is finding who is comfortable transferring into a non-starter role. Swann seems to be potentially ok with that.

I had this same thought. However, IMO, the biggest thing that separates these teams most often isn’t really talent, in most cases. It’s depth of said talent. We need both. Lol

The 2 players we lost to the portal that some fans are wringing their hands over (Juice Wells and Mario Anderson) came from these types of schools. Every school has a player or two that will either move up or down based on their performance not their ranking.

We’re better then Vandy, can win games, no set in stone starter and have a good OC that doesn’t mind slinging the rock.
