No argument about Toftrees being the best public course in the area (although I think Blue and Mountain View are also a fun round). I enjoy every round I play at Toftrees, and am a former member.I’d call for reservations as soon as you can if you want to play Toftrees on a football Friday. It gets very nuts but is the best course in the area IMHO - has been referred to as the best Marriott course in the country.
Been there...with RD, MaconNitt and "Ray"!Played both Toftrees and Mountain View, IMO Toftrees is the better course. Plus you have this on hole # 12, notice the yardage.

That quote came from a national Marriott corporate guy I heard speak at an event there. Couldda just been pumping up the local staff who do work wonders with course given the weather here.No argument about Toftrees being the best public course in the area (although I think Blue and Mountain View are also a fun round). But after looking at Marriott's golf directory, whoever is saying it's the best in the US is clearly affiliated with Toftrees. I've played most of their Florida offerings (all better), and have heard good things about the Arizona and Cali locations but have not played any of those.
Toftrees probably struggles because it's in the snow belt and so heavily treed. The condition of the course has improved since Marriott has taken over, IMO.
Probably not in the top 50 Marriott courses. Having said that, it is probably the most unique with the elevation changes and tree-lined fairways. It will be interesting to see the investment in the course after the total tear down and rebuild of the hotel and conference facilities. Poole and Shaner are going to want the golf course to be as nice as the rest of the resort once rebuilt. That quote came from a national Marriott corporate guy I heard speak at an event there. Drainage is going in first - just paused for the winter. Then new irrigation starts.I live not far from the 12th green at Toftrees. There's tubing laid out all over the place on the property so they will be doing either new irrigation or drainage soon, or perhaps something else. Seems they are continuing to thin out some of the wooded areas that separate fairways.

In Summer of 69 ( sounds like a good title for a song), I played at Toftrees. They just had 9 holes and a trailer for the pro shop.. Pretty rough around the edges. Seemed like it was “way out in the boonies” back then. Played there two summers ago. It was good, not great. Still rough around the edges!I had just graduated in 1967 and was working for HRB-Singer. I joined Toftrees for $15 a year when it was just starting up..
My understanding is that the golf course will continue to operate while the resort is rebuilt. New intra-resort roads are also in the plan as well as possibly making Toftrees drive into a boulevard to assist with the vehicle speed at the resort entrance.Resort is being blown up after the football season to build a much better facility. Not sure if they are also shutting down the golf operations as well. New resort should open for 2025 football season.
That is my understanding also. The pro shop will likely be relocated along with the “patio” area in front but the course will remain mostly intact. My understanding is that the golf course will continue to operate while the resort is rebuilt.
