Good Sportsmanship

I realize some (maybe the majority) disagree with this but I have noticed several times that Chloe Kitts frequently offers her to help players on opposing teams get up when they have fallen. Some people say this isn’t being competitive or aggressive enough but I commend her for her good sportsmanship. I once heard Corey Miller, “Pastor of Pain,” say you should psych yourself up to hate the other team before a game and I obviously disagree. (I will confess that I never played organized sports other than baseball in the sixth and seventh grades - I was a “band geek” in high school and college - so maybe I don’t have a right to comment about this! 😏 )

Yes, I noticed, and it is awesome. To me there is no need to add contempt into the mix when we are throttling another team. It is similar to big George back in the day calming handing the ball to the official after his 5th touchdown. Let the play be what intimidates not emotion or attitude. She is interesting to watch physically. She moves like a water spider! She does appear to have started to rip the ball away when teams collapse on her. one more year of strength training and she will be a force. Of course, keep the touch on the mid ranger!!!

Not in the Duke game. She got all nasty with Jadyn Donovan. After the game, she was conciliatory. I think Chloe has a inner dog in her competing with the nice girl side of her.

I'm not going to lie - I would like to see more of the dog in her.

Bear Bryant would tell his players that after they knocked them down they should offer a hand back up. And then knock them down again.

My dad, a HS coach, told me to stop helping opposing players up.

But that nature is probably one of the reasons I went into medicine.

It's just me, but I can't be nice and compete like I need to. I am so bad that coaches had to make me participate in the handshake lines. I have always thought that was fake. I need awhile to turn it off and tell somebody good game, especially after someone just beat me. That was a bit much for me. Every time I participated in a handshake line I was lying.

a water spider...thats a good one....what comes to mind when I see her try to drive the lane is a newborn deer trying to stand up for the first time and their legs going every which-a-way

Basketball was not a problem; actually just as rough if not more so than football, but it’s just natural to help someone up unless they’re a douche and maintain focus.

Football, different matter. Our staff had us spitting nails when we came out. I would have targeted my mother.

I played one year at USC but that was in the old days before the numbers exploded. I played in 1967-68 when James Pritchard was director. I think we marched maybe 75 or so.
Different times for sure! I did it two years, 2013-14.

What was your instrument? I played alto sax. I continue to love marching bands and my grandson was a percussionist in his high school band a few years ago my wife and I made it to every competition. I even occasionally get to the state finals for 5A even with no personal connection. Also, I’m prejudiced of course but IMHO participation in a marching band requires as much talent, effort and commitment as any sport!

Trumpet.

The only problem with band competitions was missing college football!
