Thanks for posting Prestonyte. Brings a big smile to my face whenever anyone mentions him. Used to see him occasionally at girls softball tournaments in Sumter. Super nice guy. Down to earth.
When I was at Coastal Carolina, I'd play a little basketball with Bobby Richardson and his daughter in the afternoons. Good times. Great guy.
We need to bring him and June Raines out at least once a year for fans to show appreciation. Celebrity guest starter at Football games opening pitch etc. Those two are repsonsible for most of our success in sports overall and many fans have no idea who they are.
I’ve told this before. Was our neighbor in Sumter. He gave my brother a ball signed by everyone on the team in ‘61. Yes, everyone, even those known with ghost signers. Bobby gave him a notarized affidavit stating so after someone questioned Yogi Berry’s dig.
The NY Yankees, my fav baseball team in the 60s. I will go to my grave believing that the 1961 Yankees were the greatest baseball team ever.
Paul Dietzel deserves some credit for getting the baseball program off the bottom floor of college baseball. He had the foresight to keep afterRichardson until he consented to take the job. Dietzel built state of the art facilities, got out of Richardson’s way and let him run the program. Few college baseball programs could match our facilities at the time.
