Ed Smith for rocking the #2 at LB and crushing people. Timmy Bowers for being clutch. J-Rock for obvious reasons and finally Paps for being a nut job.

because he could flat our hit, and he hit the only foul ball that I ever caught at a baseball game.

I popped that eight year old pretty good to get the thing. (SARCASM)

Derek Pegues, Titus Brown, Jamar Chaney, and Wes Carroll in football.

Timmy Bowers, Zimmerman, Winsome, LR, Vincent, Powers, and Varnado in basketball.

has to be one of, if not, the most clutch player in any sport that's ever put on a uniform at State. Always hit the big shots, always handled the ball at the end of games, and ALWAYS made his free throws. And most of the time was the smallest guy out there. I still thank bama everyday for not giving him a shot.

He is probably my favorite player of all time also. I wish he could have stayed at State forever.

I agree on Norwood and Bowers also. Great players and people.

Best line from Smoot - I forget which opposing receiver he was referring to - but some reporter was dogging Smoot about the receiver and how many times he woudl burn Smoot.

Smoot replied, " Man. He couldn't catch me in a phone booth."

I thought it was a classic.

talking about Ray Ray Bivines, how no one could catch him in a phone booth.

Too bad Ray Ray kept blowing out hammys.

In my last year at state, we were hosting a regional. We go out that Saturday nite to Rick's to have a few and the baseball team was there. Kevin was so wasted that he couldn't sit up and one of the players said don't worry about him. There is no way he gets back in there tomorrow. He is done for the weekend. Bam, he comes in and finishes off Notre Dame to win the regional

Also, I was out at the Cotton Bowl. Hank Thoms calls me over to meet our new catcher Chris Curry and he is pounding beers and smoking like a freight train. I think to myself this isn't good, but it didn't matter. He had an absolute cannon. He is one of the few catchers that I can remember that could gun a guy down at second without ever having to stand up to get something more on the throw.

Wilson and company were great but we don't win the SEC tournmanet or make it to the Final Four without the greatness of Dontae Jones during that run. He looked like the NBA player that he should've ended up being.

Greatest: Easily Dontae Jones. The best pure athlete to probably ever wear maroon and white. I saw him do things that I had only seen Michael Jordan do at that time.

Favorite: Dicenzo Miller. I wish we had a team full of players with the heart and drive he had.

It was a classic line all the same. But I could have sworn Smoot said it. Either way, it was a classic.

Slight correction though. A team full of Dicenzo's and David Stewart's = awesomeness.

AA - <17> you, Dontae and Jackie

I don't think you could say he was the greatest athlete we've had by any means but he had more guts and determination than most 5 man teams combined. It always seemed like the bigger the game or the bigger the moment the better he played. Also played with tremendous passion and emotion that the rest of our team fed off of. As far as the best athlete I've watched over the last couple of decades, in the major sports, I would have to give that as a tie between Dontae Jones and Eric Moulds. Those are the two best athletes we've had in football and basketball over that time frame.

I know this was discussed over a year ago, but that sign is spelled wrong. His name is Keffer McGee (right?). Did they ever fix that sign?

My fav's
Basketball: Super D, Timmy Bowers, Zimm, Marcus Grant, and Greg Carter.
Baseball: Eric Dubose, BJ Wallace, Jon Harden who threw like 40 MPH but got BIG outs, and of course Burke (can't believe nobody has mentioned him).
Football: Smoot, Michael Davis, Sleepy, Daniel Boyd, JJ, Dicenzo, and Jerious.
