Tonight, for many, marks the 12th and final night of the Christmas Season. In recent years the Gambits have had a festive 12th Night Party in which my wife and I dress up as King and Queen and enjoy much merriment with our Royal Subjects. Sadly, due to the accursed Coronavirus, we did not hold this mirthful event last year and now, yet again, our plans have been dashed. Herein fear not! Happier days are ahead. This year's party is merely delayed. We intend to have it in July, if necessary. This damnable virus will not prevail over the spirit of Christmas!
As an aside, the Gambit tree still glows like a thousand fires and will remain so until at least Candlemas Day (The Feast of the Presentation) on February 2nd. In Tudor England, this date marked the traditional end of the Christmas Season, but the Victorians changed that. The Gambits will defer to the Tudors.
I will also note that tomorrow is Orthodox Christmas Eve, Friday being Orthodox Christmas. I have mentioned many times here that, as a child growing up, my family always celebrated Christmas twice since my Mom was Orthodox and my Dad was Byzantine Catholic. What joyful days those were!
I wish all of you a Happy 12th Night and, to my Orthodox Brothers and Sisters, I wish you a Merry Christmas! God bless us, every one.
