In a rare coincidence, Purim begins tonight and will therefore overlap Saint Patrick’s Day tomorrow. My wife is baking the hamantaschen filled with prunes as we speak now for our celebration, and tomorrow we will switch into Irish soda bread. Life is good - at least in this part of the world. Happy Purim.

Thanks for sharing, I had never heard of this holiday. Looks like a lot of fun, and with a tasty looking treat.

Well it goes back to ancient Persia when then they tried to kill the Jews (sound familiar?), they escaped, and now they celebrate with food and drink. It’s not a new holiday.

Much newer than that. Created in social media.
Well there was a film made about it in 1960, and another in 2006, so your information is false. I remember celebrating Purim as a child in the 1950s.
The 1960 20th Century-Fox film Esther and the King stars Joan Collins as Esther and Richard Egan as Ahasuerus. It was filmed in Italy by director Raoul Walsh. The 2006 movie One Night with the Kingchronicles the life of the young Jewish girl, Hadassah, who goes on to become the Biblical Esther, the Queen of Persia, and saves the Jewish nation from annihilation at the hands of its arch enemy while winning the heart of the fiercely handsome King Xerxes.[118]

The 2006 comedy film For Your Consideration employs a film-within-a-film device in which the fictitious film being produced is titled Home for Purim, and is about a Southern Jewish family's Purim celebration. However, once the film receives Oscar buzz, studio executives feel it is "too Jewish" and force the film to be renamed Home for Thanksgiving.[119]

Happy Purim and lucky you! Thanks for reminding me. I need to connect with a co-worker who retired. He introduced me to Hamantaschen. I would pick some up from a local deli, and we'd share some on occasion. It reminded him of his Grandmother out East, so it had even more significance. Hopefully I can make it to this deli, but even if I do, they might be sold out by the time I get there.

Again, Thank you!

Non-Sequitur. This reminds me of a California Park Ranger saying to those of us visiting the park and taking a tour: "Humans. The worst thing to happen to this planet".
