The rules for the transfer portal have actually made it now much more attractive than signing a HS recruit. Sign a guy out of the transfer portal and he is with you for the duration unless he wants to go somewhere and sit out. Waste your time recruiting and signing a HS kid and he could bolt with no penalty before you even get a chance to get him on the field (like a Teddy Knox). College football is so screwed up right now its hard to believe that adults are actually in charge. And still no hint of even considering reduction of scholarships to make the sport more competitive.
It really is, but so is basketball and baseball. At least the latter have a solid format for determining a champion. But basketball still has one and done nonsense, and baseball still has too few scholarships.
NCAA has boomer leadership. Do nothing and fight your *** off to preserve what you know (even if it's dumb), but when you get pressured so much, drop a bomb that has more unintended consequences than benefits.
At this point though, to me, the NIL is the big issue. It's got to be better regulated so you can't throw out blanket deals just because you're on a certain school's team. It's supposed to be based on an actual player's name/image/likeness, not the school's.
