So @IrishHerb finally gives up his PSU connection.Maybe too early for scrimmaging.
Also, way back in my college days I played under two different coaches who had totally different views on scrimmages.
First 2 years our coach was an alumnus of our university ... and his idea of a practice was 45 minutes of calisthenics then and hour and a half of scrimmaging. We went 0 - 20 over those two years and were often blown out 48-0, 54-6, etc.
Last 2 years our coach was a guy who played at PSU ... his practices involved some calisthenics and a lot of stretching. Then a lot of 1 on 1, 1 on 2, 1 on 3 and 2 on 2 drills involving blocking and tackling ... and then something like 15 or 30 minutes of scrimmages. Our W/L record didn't improve much won only 3 games those 2 years, but losses were by scores like 21-20, 14-7, etc against basically the same teams we played those first 2 years.
Made me wonder the value of scrimmaging. Seemed like drills were more useful.

I’ll buy you lunch if you tell the U-Haul story.Yep. Gary Klingensmith.
I understand that Juniata High School, where he coached after leaving our university, renamed their football stadium the Klingensmith Stadium.

Cat's out of the bag.You want the story here? I'm willing to do it ... but the sad thing is that our AD who was basically the reason for this story is also a PSU alumnus.
Very cool story! Well done by him and PSU!Ok here goes ...
During my first 2 years of college most of our football gear consisted of OLD (I mean very old) helmets, pads, etc handed down from the Washington Redskins (the helmets, some of them leather, were painted in our school colors).
When Klingensmith arrived ... apparently during the summer he went through our gear and determined that they weren't safe for how he was planning to coach us ... so had our AD (who was also a PSU grad by the way) order new helmets, pads, etc ...
When pre-season practice started we were each given a schedule ... 2 a day practices every day Mon through Sat, and one practice on Sun afternoon.
On Monday new gear arrived ... and was similar to something you'd find at Toys-R-Us ... not acceptable (coach Klingensmith was obviously pissed) ... so first week of practice was in shorts and t-shirts ... calisthenics, drills that did not require helmets and padding (getting to know his blocking schemes, defenses, etc) ... then on Friday coach announced a schedule change ... Saturday would only be morning practice with assistant coaches, and Sunday practice was scrubbed ... coach was no where to be seen after Friday's practices ... then on Monday morning, there was a U-Haul truck parked outside the football dressing room ... loaded inside were PSU helmets, pads, etc. Apparently coach Klingensmith had returned to PSU and got them to donate old gear for our use.
Quick question for you Herb , does ND stay independent or join the big 10 ?Maybe too early for scrimmaging.
