It didn't in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, or 2021.

It did in 2017. That year 1 SEC team was in the top-4 going into the SECCG. That team lost and missed the CFP. The winner and a team not in the SECCG were in the CFP.

In 2018 and 2019 the SEC had two teams in the top-4 going into the SECCG. Only the winner was in the CFP.
