I have not heard much talk about Riley. I know he is a great shooter, but do yall think he will play a major role next year since Ben is history? Does he have what it takes to be a starter? He could be the surprise of the team next year...ya know....

I think Benock has potential but he has got to be more aggressive on offense otherwise he is useless as anything more than a bit player. He has decent size and athletic ability (for a white guy) but he became really passive after the walk call against UT. Definitely too early to throw him under the bus as just another white scrub.

havent forgotten about him, but until he grows a sack and learns to play without hesitation, he wont be a major part of the team.

he was a really good spot up shooter this season. the guy is just a freshman, and im sure he will grow more comfortable out there and be less hesitant to shoot. but i dont think he will be much more than a spot up shooter for us next season. a guy that can come in and play some defense while the starters rest, and take an open 3pt shot or two.

state fans are saying to themselves next year (at the one minute mark), "It's Benock Time." Bad=Seeing Benock before 1 minute to go.

How can you say he SINGLE HANDEDLY cost us the game? If he'd shot rather than travelling, there was about a 40% chance of him making the shot right there, and if he does make it then Tennessee would have had over 10 seconds to try to get a shot in themselves, but there's a 60% chance we have to try to get an offensive rebound or foul UT right there.

Why not blame Varnado or Turner, who were much less than their usual form on the game? If either of those two had just played their average game, we would have won comfortably and not been relying on a true freshman who had no other major conference offers.

so you are going with that argument where the last play of a close game was the determining play of the entire game?
kinda like how Rhodes 'lost' the WVU game in the NIT last season because he couldnt keep hold of the ball and it went out of bounds.

solid argument. cuz all the other players who took the court for the previous 39.75 minutes of the game didnt do anything to 'lose' the game for us.

Yes, he looks very intimidated by everyone else on the court, but he didn't single-handedly cost us the UT game and a share of the SEC.
As previously stated, Varnado and Turner could have played average and we still would have come out ahead. Hell, you could toss more blame on Jamont for passing it to a true frosh rather than driving the lane and going for the circus lay-in. I assure you the odds of that being successful are much greater than the odds of Benock draining a three with a hand or two in his face.

No way you can place the blame solely on Riley's shoulders.

he plays like a *****. I think the game is just way too fast for him so Im not sure how much he'll ever be a real factor other than strictly as a spot up shooter.

I'm one of the seemingly few people who likes Benock. I don't think he'll be a starter next year, or maybe ever, but I think he will be a solid contributor next year and for his career. He is a really good shooter, pretty good defender as a freshmen, and seemed to play really smart and took care of the ball for the most part while on the floor. He made a freshmen mistake in the TN game at a crucial point in the game so it got magnified even more, and after that he seemed to lose a lot of confidence in his shot and overall game. If he continues to improve in the offseason and develops more confidence, I see him being a really solid guy for us for the future. By no means do I think we should write him off for blowing the TN game as a freshmen.

Maybe Rebelbruiser can help advise you on some positive outlets for your man-crush.

/Blocking out the possibility that this could be more than a man crush.........

He had the ball in his hands probably 5 times with wide open shots. He hesitated each time he touched the ball and never got a shot off. So, yes, he single-handedly cost us that game. I wasn't referring to his last mistake, I was referring to the whole pussified game he played that day.

He passed up 5 or so shots that day when he was wide open. If Hans plays that day, I feel we win. Benock played like a little girl that day and cost us the game. And it wasn't just the travel call at the end of the game.
