Yeah but is there an opening for Mark Hall? Also, Carver Arena must have been booked?

"Replaces" LOL. Schools are going to the actual replacement Midlands in Illinois.

So far at least Wisconsin, Princeton, Campbell, Rutgers, Pitt that I've seen. Mark Hall and Christian Carroll both going so presumably Penn is too.

Haven't seen any schools commit to Iowa, except Iowa.

So if a team wrestler wrestles his backup in an open tourney, does it count as a B1G match? Asking for some wrestlers who need some matches that aren't seed breakers, like in the Iowa Open.

Brands wrestling his backup Kemerer should be the highlight of the tournament ! šŸ˜‚. Will this tournament be at Carver Hawkeye or in the Iowa Wrestling room?
I m sure Marinelli will get the hardest draw and path to victory - I mean it is a tournament. Just having FUN Iowa guys. Have a great Hawkeye Midland replacement classic! I have you as favorites even after watching Tuesday night. Lol.

I am pretty sure some schools did that last year, or at least one school, donā€™t remember who it was.

They should go there just because the same travel, same lodging, same days, pretty inconvenient going to the Iowa Open.

So I have a question, Let's say Penn State has a couple of wrestlers who need matches and it's getting close to B1Gs, why not just schedule a Penn State Open and invite several nearby colleges and enter backup Penn State wrestlers, problem solved getting matches in for our guys.

Or better yet, Penn State could call it the last chance qualifier tourney and it would get wrestlers from all over who need the extra matches, what would the B1Gs say about that? I mean the Midlands was canceled and the teams that were going are going to the Matmen Saylor Classic except for Iowa, or is that wrong? This may be a nothingburger but what am I missing? Is anyone getting where I am going with this? Will there be any wrestlers going to the Hawkeye Open who can challenge any of Iowa's wrestlers?

They didn't even wrestle, they just took 1 second defaults to give their teammate a win and boost his RPI formula, it was disgraceful and I'm pretty sure the NCAA has outlawed matches against teammates counting as a result

I forgot about that part but you are right. I did not know the NCAA changed rules because of it.

Who is going to the Hawkeye Open? I heard Coe college? Can anyone from Coe College beat someone from Iowa? It seems to me what Iowa is doing isn't much different than what Iowa State did.

I snuck over to the dark side. As of yesterday, according to IRONBIRD, the Hawkeye Open has 35 Iowa guys registered and 23 SD st. guys registered, and that's it from Div. I.

Looks like over 250 wrestlers scheduled for Matmen so far.

Iā€™m still waiting to hear one legitimate reason as to why Iowa couldnā€™t participate in the replacement tournament that included all of the tough competition.

Im thinking Iā€™ll be waiting a long, long time.

Seed protection. Seemed like they had the easier side of the pool at the duals too. Over on their blog they claim they would have only sent backups to the Midlands anyway, but who knows, this way guys like Murin and Young can win a couple matches and move back up in the rankings.

If poor Young doesnā€™t get an easy win, his psyche may shatter completely.

Shifting direction to the Illinois Matmen Open, I see that Ed Ruth (Illinois Assistant Coach) is identified on its Rokfin site as going at 174. I thought that this must be a different Ed Ruth, but he is an assistant at Illinois. Shame on me for not knowing. But, even if so, at 174?

Yeah, Iā€™d love to be facing Ruuuth in the first round. šŸ˜

Must be Edmond, Ed couldn't make the cut plus he would probably get DQed for an illegal fist to the back which isn't legal in folkstyle like MMA.

That is what I thought, too, but it says Illinois assistant coach, and he is. The 174 weight, however, is what I find most surprising. It could be that it is wrong, and Edmond is the one entered.
