which means our whole board will be filled with the HD broadcast. We have separate panels next to it for ads. 48x84 is 5.25 times 9x16. It is not possible for your entire board to show a replay at those dimensions. The twelve horizontal feet or so on each side will be used for separate ads, or maybe picture in picture type thing. That would actually be really cool, watching other games on the side. So yes, your HD portion of the board is much bigger. But the actual size that can show the game is almost exactly the same.

This thing better have a volume control. My ear drums have been blown out by the old system. It was so loud a bat could hear it from Cali.

I agree with you and we will probably see a format similar to Godzillatron with the ads, but you have to admit when they go full screen with the thing it will be impressive.

Well I guess we will be stretching our HD picture to use the full main board 111 x 47 for the game.
Arkansas does the same thing along with many other schools and pro teams.
That does not include the ad space on each side.(see the diagram in the other post).
For some reason I can not find a picture with specifiactions for Ole Miss's HD Board.

Just face it, MSU will have a superior HD Board and superior football team this year.

It looks in that Texas pic like they weren't stretching their picture. It looks like they simply cut off the top and bottom of the picture to fit it on the screen when they go full screen, much like how movies in widescreen format will simply cut off the sides of the picture to fit it on the old small screen TVs. It'll be interesting to see how both boards are used. I know that the Texas fans complain about the ads on their board, which I believe are there probably 90% of the time. I'm guessing based on the size of our board and the add panels that are being installed, that our board will have very little in terms of ads.

OP is right though that the aspect ratio limits what you can do based on the size of the board.

To be honest with you though, I could care less whose board gets to claim superiority. It's just a good off-season argument because there is nothing else going on. Once the season kicks off, there will be little, if any, talk about HD boards anymore, except the occasional complaints if things aren't working right.

Negative Ghostrider.

The gap at the top is the speakers. When they go full screen, it is full screen.

An HD BROADCAST is 16:9 but that ratio is in no way tied to HD. HD is any resolution greater than Standard Definition. Pure HD is any resolution equal to or higher than 1080 interlaced (1920 × 1080 pixels) or 720 progressive scan (1280 × 720 pixels). In order to sell TVs that will work with a broadcast they had to settle on something so 16:9 was picked. With the proper camera you can have a video board with any size dimensions you want without having to stretch or crop.

So don't think you Rebs are justifying you HD (penis) envy away that easily. Assuming we will have to crop, please.

But it sounds like 90% of the time the game replays will be exactly the same size, but we have the ability to dump the ads and make the entire screen fill up with a single image. The question is, will it be a cropped image, or will it be stretched (I hope not)? I'm assuming the the intro for the team will be full screen. They could do that without having to crop anything, but make the graphics fit the specific image ratio of the screen. Essentially, it's like have another foot and a half tacked on to your 51" plasma.

Hd Format can be shot in many different aspect ratios, you are incorrect. We dont need to add more ads on the central screen to "fill the screen" thats why we bough the extra ad boards on the side!!!
The simply fact is the UM scoreboard will be in a 1.75 aspect ration (divide the big number into the little one..its not hard to do) while ours will be in a 2.35 aspect ratio.
Both will be the newest 1080 technology, but by screen resolution, UM will be the standard 1920 x1080, while ours will have a theoretical 2538 x 1920 (again..multiply 1080 by the aspect ratio)

The board will be used to the fullest extent...and its going to be kickass

that's why sometimes when you watch a movie on your HD tv, there are still black bars on top and bottom (if you don't stretch the image).

If anyone doesn't realize yet..just how big this sucker is going to be...check out this link for the new board being built at OU's Gaylord memorial stadium...sorry UM..again you are bumped down.

http://org-www.ncaa.com/football/article.aspx?id=269912

The board will be 113.5 feet wide and 32.5 feet tall. (3688.75)sq ft, while ours will be 47 x111 (5217)sq ft.
Having seen the "Godzillatron" 134 feet wide and 55 feet tall, totaling 7,370 square feet...in real life..i can say it's just sickening...

There is no way in hell that we will use the HD board to its fullest extent. Who is going to do the graphics? You can have the best tools in the universe, but if the people using the tools are tools then the product will suffer. I expect to see crappy *** stretched lame graphics and videos with crappy sound and crappy lame boring 50's music. If I see one video of one 150 year old geezer mumbling about some incomprehensible jibber jabber then I'm gonna do my best to launch my half empty piss smelling cup of flat crown and coke towards the underused 6 million dollar HD board which may trigger its inevitable fall on top of the inflatable gay helmet, three fat tuba players and bully's house on live national TV.

Just like you could care less about recruiting? So we should expect at least 20 posts per day from you about this?

My money on the very real possiblity that the trackhoe conducting the foundations for this behemoth inadvertently crushes Bully's doghouse before the Jumbotron ever gets up there.

Its pretty difficult to make this claim and mean it if you consider the changes that were made at each program during the offseason.

We won't have a clue who is better until the season starts.

And smack talk about a video board? Is that what this board has come to? They're both of incredible quality, and two of the best in the SEC. Why can't both sides just come to that realization that both will have impressive upgrades to their gameday experiences? Who the %!#% cares if one is a 20 feet wider?

It was moved today, and sounds like it might of received some damage, but i can attest from previously seeing it close up...its old and wouldn't hurt to be replaced.

They already do this at Bama so we probably will.
