Why was the game played on December 5??
Did it move or was it scheduled?
I remember the game but can’t remember by it was played in December.
Thanks!

I think it was scheduled that way. What is ironic is I think South Carolina opened the season with Miami in 1986.

Since I have been following South Carolina football there has been six games South Carolina did not play clemson during the final game of the regular season

Hawaii 1977 and 1981
Miami 1987
West Virginia 1990? Thanksgiving day evening
Akron 2018 (I think South Carolina was supposed to play Marshall but game was cancelled due to a storm and Akron filled their spot scheduled after clemson game)
Kentucky 2020 (ten game season that started late in September and ended first week of December)

Carolina asked Miami if they could move the game to Dec 5th in order to avoid playing Miami, Georgia and Nebraska in consecutive road games….also ESPN wanted to nationally televise the game and wanted it moved to December 5th, promising each team $500,000.

The original Sept 19th road date with Miami then became an open date, which then gave Carolina two open dates that season.

I was there. That team went toe-to-toe with maybe Miami's greatest team to that point. Even though they were undefeated, we had about 50% of the fans there. Orange Bowl was a true dump of a stadium though.

Never understood Ellis' last pass when we were near the goal line. Just tossed it way out of bounds. Bummer ending to a noble effort.
